Game Wrap 8/28/2017: Giants 3 Padres 0

Jeff Samardzija pitched like a true ace while Brandon Crawford and Joe Panik supplied the offense.  Key Lines:

Brandon Crawford SS- 2 for 4, HR(12).  BA= .243.  For several innings, it looked like Brandon Crawford's solo HR to R CF in the 4'th inning might be the only run the Giants scored causing some anxiety over whether Samardzija could make it stand up.  His single in the 8'th set up Joe Panik's 2-run dinger to give Shark 2 insurance runs.

Joe Panik 2B= 1 for 2, HR(8), 2 BB.  BA= .272.  Panik managed to turn on a pitch that looked like it jammed him and take it right down the RF line and into the foul screen.

Jeff Samardzija RHP- 9 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's, GO/AO= 14/4.  ERA= 4.43.  Shark has had ace level peripherals all season but he really put it all together in this one with an efficient, dominating performance.  If the Giants have designs on getting back into playoff contention next season, they need to hang onto Shark.

Matt Moore tries to make it a win streak tomorrow facing Luis Perdomo.

  1. Samardzija has cleared waivers. As has Moore. But I agree they should keep Samardzija. His FIP is 3.44 and his xFIP is 3.45 and he's tied for 9th in Quality Starts. Meanwhile the Giants are in the bottom-five of multiple defensive measurements which, obviously, have had impacts in many games we've seen this year.

  2. I keep reading the Giants are the team most interested in Stanton. Your thoughts? And what would you think we'd have to give them?

    1. I don't see it happening. If the new ownership in Miami does not think they can afford Stanton, they should not have bought the team. It would not make sense for them to pay his salary to get prospects, and if they trade him to dump his salary, they lose all credibility with the fanbase/community.

    2. Wonder what Stanton thinks about being trade to SF!
First off, he's paid for the rest of his career so he is playing for personal achievement.
Which might not come at AT&T.
On the other hand, it might! Bonds did great where LHB isn't a positive.
BUT, do the Giants have either the prospects or the money for that?
I'd say neither for either or especially both.
