Down on the Farm: 4/8/2017

AAA  Sacramento Rivercats outscored the Tacoma Rainiers 6-5:

Austin Slater LF- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .500.
Christian Arroyo SS- 1 for 4, 2B. BA= .250.
Clayton Blackburn RHP- 3 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 1 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 15.00.
Kraig Sitton LHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 0.00.
Chase Johnson RHP- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 0.00.
Josh Osich LHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's, Save(1).  ERA= 0.00.

Multiple players got 1 hit each for the River Cats.  Slater had the only multi-hit game and Arroyo had the only other XBH.  Osich gets the Save Op with a 1 run lead and cashed it in.

AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels edged out the Hartford Yard Goats 3-2:

Slade Heathcott CF- 3 for 4, 2B.  BA= .583.
Sam Coonrod RHP- 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 3.00.
DJ Snelton LHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 0.00.
Reyes Maronta RHP- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's, Save(1).  ERA= 0.00.

Heathcott had 3 of the total of 4 hits by the Squirrels on the day.  Maronta strikes out the side for the 1-run Save.  Wouldn't be shocked to see him in SF before the season ends, maybe Heathcott too?

High A  San Jose Giants pounded the Inland Empire 66'ers 7-4:

Jalen Miller SS- 2 for 5.  BA= .313.
Ryan Howard 3B- 2 for 5.  BA= .353.
Aramis Garcia C- 3 for 5.  BA= .333.
Conner Menez LHP- 4.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 3.86.
Dusten Knight RHP- 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

Miller and Howard continue to lead the offense at the top of the order.  Interesting that in the first 3 games, Miller has played SS in 2 and DH'd in 1 while Howard has played 3B in 2 and SS on 1.  Good to see Garcia making contact and getting the BA up.  Dominant relief appearance by Knight.

Low A Columbia Fireflies swarmed over the Augusta Greenjackets 9-5:

Anthony Marks CF- 1 for 4, 2B, BB, SB(2).  BA= .273.
Jacob Heyward LF- 2 for 4, HR(1), BB.  BA= .222.
Kelvin Beltre 2B- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .214.
Cameron Avila-Leeper LHP- 2 IP, 6 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 5 BB, 0 K's.  ERA= 31.50.
Sandro Cabrera LHP- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

Marks continues to be a disruptive force at the top of the lineup.  Beltre continues to play 2B.  Heyward shows his power.

  1. How long is Slater going to stay in AAA? Is he working on his swing or pitch recognition still? Just wondering because Parker is stinking up the joint and I am not really that surprised because I think he is probably a 4A player. While I don't expect him to be hitless forever, I find it a little crazy that he has no hits yet has seven strikeouts. LF is a position you expect good hitting from too. Not a great start for the Giants, but I still think they are going to come around and take the west.

    1. With all the vet OF's in AAA, I'm guessing Slater needs to tear it up to get a look before September.
Parker doesn't have much to prove in AAA, so this is probably his last real look before facing the AAAA label.
