Spring Training Update: Exhibition Games Begin

They way you can't tell the players without a program and there was no program for yesterday's intrasquad game.  Seems even beatwriter Andrew Baggarly had trouble figuring which team was managed by Randy Winn and which one by Shawon Dunston, not that it really mattered.  Well, I guess Dunston, as the losing manager, now gets to supply Starbucks for the next week.  At any rate, one team scored 3 runs and the other didn't score in what was apparently a 3-inning affair.  Some reported highlights included 6 pitching prospects allowing a total of just 1 walk in the game.  That would include  starters Tyler Beede and Chase Johnson followed by Sam Coonrod, Jake Smith, Ian Gardeck and Ray Black.  Offensive highlights included a double by Ryder Jones, an RBI singles by Rando Moreno and Kyle Blanks and 2 hits by Christian Arroyo including a double off Beede.

Hunter Pence's MRI showed inflammation of his Achilles tendon, but no structural damage, which is good news.

The Cactus League exhibition season starts today with the Giants facing the Angels in a game that will be shown on MLB network.  Jeff Samardzija is the starter for the Giants with Clayton Blackburn also scheduled to pitch.  Buster Posey, Brandon Belt and Joe Panik will start the game but the other position players will be made up of players who are not expected to be in the Opening Day starting lineup.
