Game Wrap 9/7/2015: D'Backs 6 Giants 1

The Giants failed to extend the momentum from the two wins to close out the Rockies' series, as the D'Backs jumped on Mike Leake early and the Giants offense was not able to mount a response against Patrick Corbin.   Key Lines:

Angel Pagan- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .264.  Pagan is hitting .360 in 7 games since coming off the DL.

Joe Panik- 1 for 1, 2B.  BA= .311.  Panik did not start against the LHP, but came up as a PH in the 8'th and drove a double over the head of the CF, then scored on Buster Posey's single to RF.

Buster Posey- 3 for 4, 2B.  BA= .330.  Buster is hitting .500 over his last 7 games and .414 over his last 15.  Kruk and Kuip pointed out over and over that he is driving the ball to the opposite field with great success.

Mike Leake- 5.2 IP, 11 H, 6 R, 3 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 3.70.  Leake's sinker wasn't sinking and his breaking ball were not breaking.  Not good!  Yeah, there were some grounders and liners that found holes, but most of them were hit HARD!  This was his first poorly pitched game for the Giants, but his tenure so far has been plagued by tough luck, first with the injury and then with the pitching matchups.

Tim Hudson gets his first start in awhile tomorrow facing Chase Anderson.  Hudson has not pitched more than 2 innings at a time since coming off the DL, so the bullpen may have to strap it on early.

  1. If Buster does not get the MVP then maybe the Batting Title will be in reach. Bryce Harper is at .336 versus Buster at .330. I think Buster will still get first place votes for MVP mainly because of the demanding position he plays. That wear and tear is hard to put up those types of numbers. His pitch framing and ability to throw out runners is huge.
