Down on the Farm: 8/31/2015

AAA  Sacramento River Cats blanked the Reno Aces 1-0:

Angel Pagan(CF)- 1 for 4, 2B.  BA= .364.
Ryan Lollis(1B)- 1 for 4.  BA= .325.
Mac Williamson(LF)- 1 for 2, HBP, SB(1).  BA= .261.
Clayton Blackburn(RHP)- 7.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 9 K's.  ERA= 3.03.

The big news here is Blackburn's start.  I said a few days ago that though Blackburn has pitched well this year, he had not pitched any really dominant starts.  Well, check that box off!  He took a perfecto into the 6'th inning!  After the game, Blackburn, who never seems to be at a loss for words, unleashed a veritable torrent of them.  Here is just part of what he had to say:  "The main goal is to get to the big leagues and be able to pitch deep into the season.  Big leaguers pitch all the way into October and if everything is going well, November, especially with the Giants, 3 World Series in 5 years."  I think the biggest thing I can take from this that late in the season, I'm still as strong as I was tonight.  That's huge!  That shows me I can pitch up there and that I'm still good this late in the year."

Whoa!  I can just hear Mike Krukow saying, "Well, yeah!  I mean, I couldn't have said it better myself!"  LOL!  Oh man, can you imagine what this Blackburn kid might say if he ever shuts down the Dodgers?  He might make all of us forget John "The Count" Montefusco ever existed!  Gotta love it!

Oh, and Blackburn drove in the games only run to boot!

Ryan Lollis was DFA'd after the game to make room on the 40 man roster for Alejandro De Aza who the Giants acquired from Boston for Luis Ysla.

DSL  Giants completed a sweep of the Rangers for the DSL title 6-5:

Juan Rodriquez(CF, 21 yo)- 4 for 4, Sac, SB(1).  BA= .385.

Sandro Fabian(RF, 17 yo)- 1 for 4, HR(3), SF.  BA= .292.
Melvin Adon(RHP, 21 yo)- 5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 1.59.
Raffi Vizcaino(RHP, 19 yo)- 4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 3.00.

Once again, the kids lead the way.  Will Fabian and Mendoza's power surge in the DSL playoffs be enough to earn them a promo to the States next season?
