Game Wrap 6/3/2015: Pirates 5 Giants 2

The Pirates came to town and ransacked the village, killed the men and sold the women and children into slavery and left it in flames, figuratively of course.  The Giants offense was not able to support a QS by Tim Hudson and as the Pirates completed a 3 game sweep and the Giants dropped their 5'th game in a row.  Just a guess, but that Wild Card game loss by the Pirates last year may have been on their minds.  Key Lines:

Norichika Aoki- 2 for 5.  BA= .314.  Aoki continues to get on base at an impressive rate.  Maybe he is trying to do too much on the basepaths once he gets on.  He ran himself into outs both times he got on base which could have cost the Giants a run or 2.

Joe Panik- 2 for 4.  BA= .307.  First 2 batters in the lineup go 4 for 9 and come away with just 1 RBI to show for it.  No Runs scored.

Tim Hudson- 7 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 6 K.  ERA= 4.41.  Solid start for Huddy that goes to waste.

The Loss drops the Giants 2.5 games behind the Dodger pending the outcome of their game against the Reeling Rockies.  Don't expect THAT to go well! The Giants also trail the Nationals Mets and Cubs by percentage points in the race for the second Wild Card playoff spot.  The Mets and Nationals are tied for first place in the NL East.

The Giants now get a day off from baseball, but have to make a side trip to Washington DC for the traditional meet and greet of the President in the White House, part of the honor and responsibility that comes from winning the World Series, silly as it seems.  They then start a road trip in Philadelphia then on to New York to take on the NL East leading Mets.

  1. At least the Rockies beat the bums. But otherwise it's been a rough week. I'm going to have to pull for the Cards to beat-down on the Dodgers because, frankly, I'm not above a little 'help' as it were.

Got to feel sorry for Hudson. I don't think he has a lot of high-quality starts left in him. To have one squandered by a lack of offense has got to be wearing. At this rate, he'll be lucky to have a .500 season. Which he'd probably be happy with after last year's 9-13 mark.
