Game Wrap 6/16/2015: Giants 6 Mariners 2

Matt Duffy had a big day at the plate and the bullpen shut the door after Tim Lincecum struggled through another start to break the Giants 5 game losing streak and something like 9 game losing streak at home.  Key Lines:

Matt Duffy- 3 for 4, HR(6).  BA= .289.  The Giants badly needed to get on the board first in this one and The Duffman came through in his first AB with a 2-run dinger.  He added an RBI single later in the game.

Casey McGehee- 1 for 1, 2B.  BA= .210.  McGehee drove in 2 insurance runs with a PH double.

Tim Lincecum- 5.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 4 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 3.31.  On a day when hitters went wild in the MLB, you might consider this a QS, or even a dominant one.  At face value, though, it was what as become a typical Timmy start.  If he can get you to the 6'th inning with a lead, you figure it's a good day.

Bullpen- 3.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  4 relievers led by Javier Lopez, who is having a stupendous season, and Santiago Casilla, pitched perfect ball down the stretch to put this game away.

The Win cut the Giants deficit in the NL West to 2.5 game behind the Dodgers who lost for the second time in a row to the Texas Rangers.  The D'Backs also lost to remain 5.5 games behind the Dodgers in 3'rd place.

Big game tonight as Madison Bumgarner takes on Felix Hernandez in Seattle.

  1. So how long will it take before the Giants finally move Matt Duffy to the 3rd spot in the batting order?

  2. I'm glad for the decent start out of Timmy, and while it may sound cruel/tacky to be critical when he did an ok-to-good job, but at this point in time I consider Timmy, Vogelsong and Hudson all 6-inning pitchers. By that I mean if you can get 6 good innings out of them, unless you have a huge lead where you can risk a 'big inning' and still keep the lead it's about all you should expect and it's bullpen time.

And since we have an 8-man bullpen I think we can afford to go a little more often than teams with 7-man bullpens.

Also, the Giants did a classy thing:

"The Giants on Wednesday symbolically re-signed second baseman Marco Scutaro to a major league contract in order for the 13-year veteran to retire in Orange and Black.

Scutaro was immediately placed on the major league disabled list and transferred to the 60-day DL, leaving one vacancy on the Giants' 40-man roster.

The 2013 All-Star and 2012 NLCS MVP played in just five games for the Giants last year due to a lower back injury that required surgery to fuse two vertebrae in December of 2014.

According to the Giants, "he continues to rehab near his home in Florida in hopes of maintaining a quality of life and be pain-free with his family.""

I really appreciate gestures like that. Or when the Giants gave Ishikawa a very decent contract knowing he had little, if any, chance of getting back to the show without a Belt or Posey injury, instead of just letting him leave.
