Down on the Farm: 7/25/2014

AAA  Fresno Grizzlies defeated the El Paso Chihuahuas 9-7:

Juan Perez(RF)- 2 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .336.
Travis Ishikawa(1B)- 3 for 5, 2 2B.  BA= .269.
Chris Heston(RHP)- 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 3.67.

There are 3 catchers on the Fresno roster:   Quiroz, Susac and Brad Mills, who is listed at 5'8", 160 lbs. I'll guess that Quiroz gets the callup to replace Hector while Hector is on the concussion DL.

AA  Erie Seawolves blanked the Richmond Flying Squirrels 2-0:

Kyle Crick(RHP)- 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 11 K's.  ERA= 3.09.

A Phillies scout was rumored to be in attendance specifically to watch Cricky pitch.  Did he like what he saw?  All I can say is if the Giants trade Cricky, they better get something good and something for the future back.

High A  Visalia Rawhide outlasted the San Jose Giants 4-2 in 12 innings:

Mitch Delfino(3B)- 2 for 4, 2B, BB, SB(5).  BA= .282.
Kendry Flores(RHP)- 5.1 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 4.19.
Stephen Johnson(RHP)- 2.2 IP, 2 H 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 2.65.
Tyler Rogers(RHP)- 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 2.74.

Low A Augusta Greenjackets beat the Savannah Sand Gnats 5-2:

Ryan Jones(3B)- 3 for 4.  BA= .268.
Jeremy Sy(2B)- 2 for 4, HR(10).   BA= .243.
Cristian Paulino(RF)- 2 for 3, 2B.  BA= .245.
Chase Johnson(RHP)- 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 4.97.
Dan Slania(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(11).  ERA= 3.36.

Short Season  Salem-Keizer Volcanoes topped the Spokane Indians 5-2:

NTSH.

Rookie AZL  Giants outscored the Cubs 6-2:

Randy Ortiz(RF)- 2 for 4, 3B, HR(1), BB.  BA= .364.
Michael Santos(RHP)- 5 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 1.54.

DSL  Rojos(Reds) downed the Giants 5-4:

NTSH.

  1. I second the comment about something good and the future in any Crick trade.

  2. Jake Peavy trade to the Giants is imminent, reports say. Involved SF players is an unknown at this point.

    1. That needs to be at a minimal price, but not surprising that Bochy and Peavy want to work together again.

    2. Deal is reportedly done. Red Sox acquire minor league pitchers, 1 LHP and 1 RHP. I have not seen word on who they are.

    3. Hembree and Escobar.

    4. A bit more than I was hoping for but both pitchers have had disappointing seasons.

    5. Yup, once big time prospects, but no longer the case this season. Good timing, and Peavy should do better in the NL West, along with your previous mention of his history with The Bochmeister.

      Not a bad deal, really.

    6. I don't have a problem giving up either of Escobar or Hembree and I think Peavy (like Hudson) will do well in SF. The price seems a tad high maybe, but who's to argue with Sabean /staff on young pitchers (only the Liriano/Nathan misstep)?

I think by next year, if not already, guys like LAW, STRICKLAND, OKERT have or will pass Hmebree by. Escobar is a but tougher. Hw was great last year but has been getting lit up this year...Just an adjustment thang? This along with Peavy's success will decide the trade..

ANd, hey, gotta give to get....

I still think Sabean has a big trade left in him for either a CF (if Pagan is not healthy) or a 2B...which prospects go there will be interesting

    7. I agree with the relief prospects coming up the pipeline plus the potential decisions to be made on the 40 man roster, that hembree was expendable, but i still hated to see him go. You can't tell me he couldn't do what Gutierrez has done this year.

Escobar is a little tougher as really no depth in the SP unless they think kickham and snodgrass (who's having a decent year AA) can replace escobar next year.

I think the giants still have some prospects to trade as I mentioned the decisions on the 40 man roster.

Lastly, i think it will be quiroz to be called up for sanchez. He's a solid vet catcher who needs to only catch 1-2 games. He would be the better fit with Timmy than Susac.

    8. I wish them (Hembree and Escobar) well.

We still have Hall, Strickland, Law, Black from the right hand side, as far as relievers are concerned.

As for starters, Richmond is where they say our top prospects are...Crick, Mejia, Blackburn, Blach.

At the minimal, Peavy will give us a psychological boost. I think he will help with actual results as well.

    1. im happy

if susac pans out, either he or sanchez can be used as trade bait in the offseason....

not as much on the word about cain

which is why sabey sabes and the org may balk at trading a front line pitcher for a rental

which is why they went after peavy....with his relationship with bochy, he may be an ez extension

  4. Why didn't they clean out Cain's arm a couple of years ago?

    1. Bone chips are often asymptomatic. You do not clean them out just for the sake of cleaning them out and surgery is something to be avoided if at all possible.
