Down on the Farm: 6/19/2014

AAA  New Orleans Zephyrs defeated the Fresno Grizzlies 7-5:

Gary Brown(CF)- 2 for 4, HBP, SB(8).  BA= .266.
Joe Panik(2B)- 2 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .316.
Adam Duvall(3B)- 2 for 4, HR(23).  BA= .296.
Darren Ford(LF)- 2 for 3, BB, SB(11).  BA= .316.
Edwin Escobar(LHP)- 6 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 5.31.

Panik and Duvall continue to lead the way for the Grizzlies.  Brown needs to string a bunch of these games together.  Esobar's line would indicate that he had good stuff and good command.  2 dingers is what did him in.

AA  Binghampton Mets blanked the Richmond Flying Squirrels 6-0:

Jarett Parker(RF-CF)- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .238.
Kyle Crick(RHP)- 4.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 4 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 3.88.

Cricky threw 100 pitches in the 4.2 IP.  The 7 K's would indicate good stuff.  The walks and pitch count poor command.

High A  San Jose Giants topped the Visalia Rawhide 7-2:

Jesus Galindo(CF)- 3 for 4, SB(21).  BA= .291.
Joe Biagini(RHP)- 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 3.93.
Tyler Mizenko(RHP)- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(5).  ERA= 2.93.

Galindo probably has to be considered the top prospect in San Jose right now.

Low A  Asheville Tourists edged the Augusta Greenjackets 1-0:

Christian Jones(LHP)- 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 2.72.

Short Season  Hillsboro Hops topped the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 4-3:

Kirk Singer(RHP)- 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

DSL  Rockies outscored the Giants 6-5:

Kelvin Beltre(DH, 17 yo)- 2 for 5, 2B, HR(3), SB(6).  BA= .218.
Robinson Medrano(RF, 18 yo)- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .319.

The BA might not look like much, but Beltre is showing a very nice combination of power and speed.  He has an OBP over .400 with 18 BB's against just 8 K's in 55 AB's.  I still really like Medrano as a prospect even though this is his second stint in the DSL.  He's still young and I like his size for an OF prospect.

Arizona League starts tonight with last years HS draftees, Dylan Brooks, Rayan Hernandez, Jonah Arenado and John Riley of particular interest.  I would also expect to see 2014 draftee Luis Lacen sometime during Rookie League.
