Down on the Farm: 4/19/2014

AAA  Reno Aces pounded the Fresno Grizzlies 9-2:

Gary Brown(CF, .286), Joe Panik(2B, .284)- 2 for 5.

Grizzlies got a total of 10 hits and 5 walks and only managed to score 2 runs.  Sound familiar?  Roger K had 2 dingers for the Aces.

AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels defeated the Altoona Curve 7-3:

Myles Schroder(Catcher)- 2 for 2, 3 BB.  BA= .302.
Angel Villalona(1B) 2 for 5, 3B.  BA= .296.
Kelby Tomlinson(2B) 2 for 5, SB(6).  BA= .170.
Matt Duffy(SS)- 1 for 4, BB.  BA= .278.
Kyle Crick(RHP)- 3.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 6 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 3.27.
Jack Snodgrass(LHP)- 3.1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 0.79.
Austin Fleet(RHP)- 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 2.25.

Would have loved to see Angel V leg out a triple.  A wild start for Kyle Crick.  Interesting that Tomlinson played 2B with Duffy at SS.  Maybe Tomlinson has been at 2B all along and I didn't notice.  I knew Duffy had been playing a lot of SS.

High A  Bakersfield Blaze edged the San Jose Giants 7-6:

Jesus Galindo- 3 for 5, 2 2B.  BA= .328.
Nick Noonan(2B)- 2 for 5, 2B, HR(1).  BA= .400.
Mac Williamson(DH)- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .267.
Chuckie Jones(RF)- 2 for 3, BB.  BA= .220.
Joe Biagini(RHP)-  6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 4 K, GO/AO= 10/2.  ERA= 2.93.

Noonan starts a rehab assignment.  Mac's BA is rising.  Biagini showing some consistency.

Low A  Augusta Greenjackets topped the Lexington Legends 5-2:

Ryder Jones(SS)- 2 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .241.
Brandon Bednar(1B)- 1 for 4, HR(1).  BA= .319.
Matt Lujan(LHP)- 5.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K's, GO/AO= 9/1.  ERA= 1.45.
Dan Slania(RHP)- 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 2.03.

  1. How is Duffy's defense, DrB?

Good, but noticeably inferior to Adrianza's?
Good and just a little below?
    Just good?

While Escobar has yet to get going (I read that he was not impressive to management in spring training, in one of Baggarly's chats), Angel is off to a good start.

Forgot to ask yesterday - Is Kickham hurt or is he regressing?

    1. I just read the boxscores like everybody else. Without knowing any inside info, I'd say Duffy's D at SS is good, probably not great.

Kickham has always had command/control problems and has always had better peripheral numbers than results so I'm not sure he's regressing. Probably just oscillating within his historic range.

  2. Jesus Gallindo!!

Also, Kyle Crick... Yikes! Get it together there young man, the future of the Giants pitching staff is to some degree riding on those big, man-child shoulders.

Also, Angel Villalona! Wow, he's showing something very impressive right now, you ask me.
