  1. as bonds doesnt get to st till the 10th, hope they send him over to minor league camp to give the kids some pointers

the bums finally broadcast another st game....cuz it was against the halos....vinnie stayed home, so it was all tweedledum and tweedledumber

first use of the new instant replay rule was used in the first inning

puig still hasnt learned how to judge the ball and tried to make a play on a sure single by trout....dove and missed and the ball ran all the way to the fences...trout decided to test puig's arm and tired for an inside the park hr....strong throw and the ump called him out...the big fat red tomato came out to argue...ooops....immediately call for a replay after a 30 sec convo...the umps walked to the sidelines, made a call to nyc....the replay official spent about 2 minutes looking at every angle...upheld the call

just like that....was a very close play...looked like trout got his hand on plate right before the tag...but not conclusive...so good call

    wow...baseball enters the 21st century

    1. I believe Bonds assignment it to work with the young hitters.

    2. I know it will probably seem like just another part of the game in a few years, but I really don't know if I'm ready for replay in baseball. Sure, I'm all for getting a call right, but how many years has football had replay, and how many calls still get blown? Not to mention slowing the game down to a standstill...

    3. It's not like baseball is a fast paced game unless we're talking pitching momentum and rhythm

  2. There are no real surprises on the first cuts, but I realized I was hoping for a miracle with Javier Herrera. I was disappointed to see his name.
I also expected more from Villalona and Panik, but again I understand the decision. Villalona needs more ABs than anybody else, and he will not get them at the big league camp. And Panik will have to wait for his turn behind Arias, Adrianza, Abreau, Noonan, and Hicks even with Scutaro out.

    1. Herrera is going to have to wait until an injury or ineffectiveness give him his shot during the course of the year. He's just not the kind of player for whom the Spring stats can show enough for him to be on the opening day roster. On the other hand, Blanco did it somehow...

As far as Villalona and Panik - their demotion is not at all an indictment of their play but rather the best way for them to get geared up for the opportunities of the 2014 season. The fact that they were in big league camp in the first place is the meaningful statement about what the organization feels towards these two players. If you're not being considered for an opening day slot on the 25 at this point (or you're Mark Minicozzi, who's story is just too fun to not run with for now) - the best possible thing for a given player is to get their reps in minors camp.

    2. As I said in the original message, I can see why they are sent back to the minors. But for Villalona being considered for the opening day roster is not enough. He is already on the 40-man roster, and he will be out of options next year. So he needs more than being considered for the job.

    3. Outside of the bullpen, there are just 2 roster spots up for grabs with just 2 realistic candidates for each one: 1. Middle infield between Abreu and Adrianza 2. 5'th OF between Juan Perez and Tyler Colvin. All 4 of those players have performed well so far, so there is no door cracked open for anyone else to realistically compete.

The Giants have a potential future dilemma with Angel Villalona. His bat has great potential but is still very raw. I just don't see him being ready to handle MLB pitching this year or even by next year. The problem is how to keep him in the organization after he is out of options, which seems to be next year. All they can do for now is put him in Fresno or back in Richmond and give him as many pro AB's as possible and see how it all shakes out.

  3. I like Adrianza but am a little skeptical as to whether he'll hit enough to stick in the majors. His D is outstanding no doubt.. I'm wondering if the Giants see him as a potential starting SS in the future as good as Crawford or just another good fielding no hit SS like Brian Bocock? If they see him as a starting SS, then I can't see them letting go of a player like that no matter how good a spring Tony Abreau has.. It seems like the Giants have done a good job in terms of deciding which minor leaguers to keep and which ones to let go in the past so I'm confident they'll do the right thing here.

    1. I believe that Adrianza is a greatly underrated hitter, definitely much better than Bocock and potentially better than Crawford down the road.
