Game Wrap 8/28/2013: Rockies 5 Giants 4

A late rally by the Giants fell short after the Rockies had built a 5-1 lead on sloppy play by the Giants and a no-hitter that Jhoulys Chacin took into the 7'th inning.   Key Lines:

Brandon Belt- 1 for 2, 2B, 2 BB.  BA= .280.  Belt accounted for 3 of the Giants 4 runs by scoring twice and driving one in.  He also comitted an error that did not figure into the scoring.

Brandon Crawford- 1 for 3.  BA= . 267.  Crawford's missed catch on a potential DP ball contributed to the Rockies' 4 run 6'th inning.

Madison Bumgarner- 5.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 2.91.  Bummy pitched better than the line would indicate.  Tough to pitch with no run support.

The Giants are now in 7'th place in the race for the #1 overall draft pick in 2014.

Giants have a day off before starting a 3 game weekend series in Arizona with Tim Lincecum facing Randall Delgado.

  1. On to more interesting topics: wheels appear to be coming off of Puig.

As I noted in a previous comment, his batting line recently took a huge dive, again, and while still good, is now just slightly above average. Meanwhile, he recently had an outburst screaming at the media, and just yesterday was removed from the game for disciplinary reasons.

I thought Donny avoided the axe with their great run during the summer, but if Puig poisons the soup much more, Mattingly might still get replaced anyway, what do you think?

Giants are still in a volatile position for the draft pick. They are only 4 games "behind" the Cubs for the 3rd overall pick, but only 3 games away from falling to the 14th pick. Losing each series has helped us stay in the Top 10, but August was viewed to be a hard slog and it has, with only two days of rest the whole month, and I think they lost one day of rest due to stopping off at the White House for the celebration with President Obama for the 2012 World Championship.

    1. I honestly have not been paying any attention to the Dodgers or the rest of the division. As Bacci would say, "F the Dodgers!" Some of my Dodger fan friends keep asking me what I think of Puig. I keep telling them he might be a flash-in-the-pan. LOL!

    2. I normally do noy pay much attention to the Bridegrooms except when we are battling for title, but hard to miss all the headlines on his screaming, and now this.

I wasnot really sure, and still not, but he was just striking out so much that had I had to make a bet, it would be that he was a flash, few can strike out so much and still be good overall, and he has been dropping, plus these two incidences make me wonder about his maturity and stability. I think they have enough momentum to slide into the playoffs, but I wonder if they will lose the first series. And I think they need to win at least that first series to keep their jobs, both Ned and Donny.

  2. The Giants probably would have won a game like that had we still be in contention.

As it was, we got sloppy.
