Down on the Farm: 5/4/2013

AAA  Colorado Springs Sky Sox defeated the Fresno Grizzlies 8-3:

Carter Jurica(SS)- 2 for 4, 2B, 3B.  BA= .343.
Juan Perez(RF)- 2 for 4.  BA= .279.
Chris Dominguez(3B)- 2 for 4.  BA= .282.
Boof Bonser(RHP)- 3.2 IP, 10 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 3 BB, 2 K.  ERA= 4.97.
Ramon Ramirez(RHP)- 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 4.76.
Carlos Teller(LHP)- 3 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 1.69.

Is Perez going to move off 3B now that Pegs got the promo?  Is Dominguez dialing back on the power to try to make more consistent contact?  This Teller looks like an organizational guy.

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels pounded the Trenton Thunder 15-8:

Joe Panik(SS)- 1 for 5, SB(2).  BA= .304.
Mark Minicozzi(3B)- 3 for 5, 2 2B.  BA= .278.
Andrew Susac(C)- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .304.
Ricky Oropesa(1B)- 1 for 5, HR(2).  BA= .204.
Jarrett Parker(RF)- 2 for 5, 2B, 3B.  BA= .222.
Travious Relaford(2B)- 1 for 4, BB.  BA= .333.
Ryan Lollis(CF)- 1 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .216.
Chris Gloor(LHP)- 5 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 6.75.

Lots of guys contributing here, but I expected to see a few more huge games when I saw the score.

High A  Rancho Cucamonga blanked the San Jose Giants 6-0:

Adalberto Mejia(LHP)- 5 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 4.07.
Kelvin Marte(LHP)- 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 2.70.
Josh Osich(LHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 1.20.

The Giants managed just 4 hits, 2 by Ryan Cavan.  Marte was a starter for SJ in 2011, but missed significant time last year.  He's pitching out of the bullpen now.

Low A  Augusta Greenjackets out hit the Asheville Tourists 11-9:

Shayne Houck(1B)- 3 for 4, BB.  BA= .361.
Ben Turner(C)- 2 for 5.  BA= .221.
Andrew Cain(RF-CF)- 2 for 4, 2B, 2 SB(2).  BA= .154.
Eric Sim(DH)- 3 for 5.  BA= .206.
Matt Duffy(SS)- 1 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .304.
Steven Okert(LHP)- 2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 3.55.
Tyler Mizenko(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K, Save(8).  ERA= 0.00.
Joe Biagini(RHP)- 1.1 IP, 3 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 5 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 5.57.

Again, I was hoping to see a couple of huge games from someone.  I guess Houck's game counts.  An oops game from Biagini.  Okert seems to have overcome his early season struggles.

  1. Shayne Houck is hitting for average but has only one double. Still early, but its interesting. The Augusta hitting has improved over last year. But that pen - you give them a lead, look out.

Gary Brown has a 3 game hitting streak. He is K'ing more than he usually does through his first 131 PAs - 26 Ks. And his splits versus RHP are a big part of the problem. Curious to see what the Giants are doing to coach him.
