Down on the Farm: 8/31/2012

AAA  Tacoma Rainiers destroyed the Fresno Grizzlies 19-3:

Yusmeiro Petit(RHP)- 7 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 10 K's.  ERA= 3.46.

Surprisingly good line from Petit considering the final score of the game.  Grizzlies relievers gave up 14 runs in the last 2 innings.

AA  Akron Aeros strafed the Richmond Flying Squirrels 8-1:

Johnny Monell(C)- 3 for 3, 2 2B.  BA= .258.
Chris Gloor(LHP)- 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 2.81.

Monell hit .341 with 14 XBH's in August.  Gloor left the game after getting hit by a line drive.  That seems to be happening more at all levels of baseball lately.

High A  Modesto Nuts topped the San Jose Giants 3-1:

Dan Burkhart(C-1B)- 2 for 4.  BA= .298.
Cody Hall(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 3.24.
Josh Osich(LHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 3.73.

Joe Panik sat this one out so his drive to .300 remains at .297.

Low A  Charleston River Dogs defeated the Augusta Greenjackets 4-1:

Edwin Escobar(LHP)- 8.2 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 2.96.

Short Season  Tri-City Dust Devils beat the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 10-5:

Mike Merganthaler(RF)- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(3).  BA= .221.
Stephen Johnson(RHP)- 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 4.66.
Ian Gardeck(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 4.20.

  1. Doc (or any prospect hounds out there), what're your thoughts on Roger Kieschnick? I remember he put up some pretty decent numbers in SJ in his 1st year. Seems like he tailed off a bit, but he's hitting again (albeit in the PCL).

Also interesting to me that everyone seemed to think he was done for the year with his shoulder, and yet they bothered to bring him back for the final 4 games of Fresno's season....future call-up maybe? He is on the 40.

Anyways, does anyone view him as a decent future major leaguer; maybe Schierholtz with more pop? Or is he an AAAA player ala Linden, Bowker, etc.?

    1. Kieschnick I believe if not for his injury problem might have made it to the big league already, as for how well we will see when he gets here whenever that is.

    2. Injuries, injuries. The Schierholtz comp runs deep. He has a nice arm like Nate as well. Hope he is healthy to challenge Peggs and others for 4th OF status in spring training.

    3. i certainly would not write off Roger Kieschnick as a prospect just yet. I figured he might get sent to the AFL to get him more AB's but can't argue with the choices that made it.

    4. If he could have stayed healthy, I don't doubt he would have gotten some play in left for the Giants this year. The consensus is that he struggled mightily in AA, but he was clearly injured his first season there and then last year he had 16 homers as he was coming back from his back injury. Not sure you can call him a sleeper at this point, but for an organization lacking in power, a guy like Roger K could have a future with the Giants in the coming seasons.

  2. And Correa gets the 40 man cut. Adrianza is safe for now OGC... Although he is looking like a poor man's Burriss right now.
