  1. BTW, there's an article on Fangraphs about the Northwoods League. Conor Gillaspie's lil bro, Casey, will be a sophomore at Wichita State next spring. He is 6'5", 230 lbs and much more of a HR hitter than Conor.

  2. Game wrap...Grizzlies lose 3-4. Players of the game Connor Gillaspie who hit well and had a good diving play towards the 3rd base line and throw to get the runner at 1st. Our old friend Matt Downs for the Redhawks who blasted a HR to Left and hit the ball hard pretty much every at bat.

Andrew Kown looked OK until the 6th when his velocity dropped to 89 and then got hit hard. Burris played a solid 2nd base but his bat sure is weak even though he got a couple of hits, he is a slap hitter for sure. Noonan at SS was average, his arm is not strong enough to play at the next level as a SS. He has a fair left-handed bat and arm for a second baseman I would guess. Brock Bond can hit but he does not look 5'11.

Todd Linden played 1B and looked like the out-fielder he is playing 1B. He looked sort of lost a couple of times especially on a ball hit in the hole that Burris easily fielded to his left and Linden could not get back to the bag. Kown was super slow over to 1B himself and the runner was safe. Linden does have some "pop" in his bat though.

Christian played a solid CF and stroked the ball well as the lead off hitter. Eli did a fair job behind the plate but his bat is toast and his arm looks weak.

Peguero looked good in RF and at the plate. He had a HR that was killed by the wind that was blowing in to RF, Frankie Pegs has speed that will play in RF at AT&T, overall I was impressed.

Xavier Nady's bat looks slow to me, he also looked bad on a few breaking balls in the dirt. He did hit a few mistake pitches hard but one was a line out to the SS for a double play and the other was a weak grounder that was a double play. He also totally biffed on a fly ball to left field that turned into a ground rule double and cost the Grizzlies the game. Maybe he can change my mind over the next 3 days but he was horrible last night.

    1. Thanks for the report. I think some folks have written of Frankie Pegs a bit too soon. Let's see what he can do if he's healthy from the get-go next year.

    2. Yeah, the Giants have been trying to change Burriss's way of hitting forever, he was kind of the reason why Carney Lansford gave up coaching on his boyhood team, wrestling with how to get Burriss to start swinging for line drives instead of slap hits. Apparently, he has very strong arms that Carney thought was capable of a lot more, but, alas, Burriss has stayed with the way he was taught instead of adjusting, like Brown did this season and Noonan in a prior season.

Noonan's scouting reports have always talked about how he's a starter at 2B if he ever makes it to the majors, so you got him pegged same as the scouts that he can't start at SS in the majors. I assume they started playing him at SS again, both to give Culberson a chance to stick in the majors at 2B and to prepare Noonan for a potential utility role in the majors, much like Burriss. I'm still hopeful that Noonan's bat can develop and he could compete for the starting 2B job at some point, though now it appears to be a race between him and Panik.

I appreciate your sharing your in-game thoughts and views, thanks.

  3. Your welcome. Pegs has some "pop" in his bat. My son and I thought his deep fly ball to RF was gone but the wind was really knocking the ball down and the RF'er still went to the wall to catch it. The one thing I thought was amusing was the fact that Pegs actually got a base on balls right after I was telling my son, "Peguero never walks". Peguero actually looked pissed when the pitcher was not throwing him strikes. On his PA where he walked he looked disgruntled that he got nothing to hit. Pretty funny.

  5. Nady, Pegs, Christian and Pill are all in the starting lineup here in OKC.

  6. Maybe now we know why they took the flier on Nady...

  7. Well, the Giants signed Xavier Nady before they were notified of Melky's positive test.

  8. Officially they weren't notified but if Baggerly heard rumors, you can be sure that the Giants did too. I really wanted Kieschnick to get a shot given how well he was doing but alas he's out for the year. I wouldn't mind calling up Francisco Peguero and see if we can catch lighting in a bottle. Worked for Sandoval.

    1. I think if the Giants try to catch lightning in a bottle, it will be with Brown, but I think it's most likely Blanco or bust. Can Scoots play some LF?
