Down on the Farm: 8/1/2012

AAA  Nashville Sounds defeated the  Fresno Grizzlies 7-5:

Nick Noonan(SS)- 2 for 5.  BA= .307.
Jackson Williams(C)- 2 for 4, HR(10), BB.  BA= .268.
Brock Bond(2B)- 4 for 4, 2B.  BA= .336.
Mitch Lively(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.   ERA= 3.51.
Jean Machi(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 4.02.

I'm gonna say the next time the Giants need an emergency catcher callup, it should be Williams.  Seems like Bond could help some team off the bench too.

AA  Reading Phillies beat the Richmond Flying Squirrels 7-4:

Juan Perez(RF)- 1 for 4, HR(10).  BA= .286.
Ryan Cavan(2B)- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .240.
Gary Brown(CF)- 0 for 4.  BA= .285.
Chris Heston(RHP)- 3.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 2.39.
Jake Dunning(RHP)- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 4.55.

Should Juan Perez be ahead of Gary Brown on the Giants OF depth chart?

High A  San Jose Giants quelled the Bakersfield Blaze 7-6:

Carter Jurica(2B)- 1 for 4, HR(4).  BA= .292.
Joe Panik(SS)- 1 for 3, 2 BB.  BA= .277.
Adam Duvall(3B)- 2 for 4, BB.  BA= .252.
Jarrett Parker(CF)- 2 for 4, HR(9).  BA= .249.
Jarrod Page(DH)- 1 for 3, BB, SB(4).  BA= .115.

Low A  Rome Braves came from behind to edge the Augusta Greenjackets 7-6:

Jesus Galindo(CF)- 0 for 2, 3 BB, SB(34).  BA= .240.
Devin Harris(RF)- 3 for 5.  BA= .264.
Garrett Buechele(1B)- 2 for 5.  BA= .274.
Kyle Crick(RHP)- 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 2.47.

I hope Mike Newman saw this game and has a scouting report on Crick on Fangraphs soon.

Short Season  Vancouver Canadians topped the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 5-1:

Kentrell Hill(LF)- 2 for 5, SB(5).  BA= .297.
Trevor Brown(DH)- 2 for 4, 2B, SB(1).  BA= .196.
Mason McVay(LHP)- 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 0.68.
Stephen Johnson(RHP)- 2 IP, 1 H,  1 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 7.00.

Rookie AZL  Giants downed the Dodgers 5-1:

Hector Mercedes(RF)- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .279.
Jonathan Jones(1B)- 3 for 3, 2 2B, BB.  BA= .317.
Andrew Leenhouts(LHP)- 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 9 K's.  ERA= 3.86.
Eduardo Encinosa(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 2.61.

Jonathan Jones continues to rake the AZL.  Leenhouts is old for the league, but putting up nice K #'s.  Is Hector Mercedes a sleeper?

DSL  Giants edged the Phillies 5-4:

Hengerber Medina(3B)- 2 for 2, 3 BB.  BA= .338.
Carlos Valdez(CF-LF)- 2 for 5.  BA= 247.

Medina and Valdez seem to be the top 2 Giants position prospects in the DSL

  1. Hengerber with a 91% contact rate! .484 OBP has nowhere to go but down. Interesting name, interesting prospect.

  2. Did Joseph play his former team in AA?

  3. I think Gary Brown is probably ahead of Juan Perez at this point.. Although Perez aounds like an excellent defensive outfielder, ranked #24 in Giant system by BA, he has two things working against him: his age (25 years old) and his bat .269 career BA.. The interesting thing is he changed his swing so he can hit for a higher average and he's putting together a nice year at AA batting .285 with 10 hrs. It wouldn't surprise me if he's added to the 40 man roster in 2013.. I think he could be a sleeper for a reserve OF spot in 2013..
