Down on the Farm: 7/18/2012

AAA  Las Vegas 51's clobbered the Giants 11-5:

Nick Noonan(SS)- 2 for 5, HR(7).  BA= .298.
Chris Dominguez(LF)- 2 for 3, BB, Assist(home).  BA= .232.

Noonan continues his fine season.  Dominguez has a cannon for an arm.  Not sure how may OF assists he's had but he's had a lot.  Maybe he should take up pitching?

AA  Altoona Curve hammered Richmond Flying Squirrels 8-3 in a rain shortened game:

Gary Brown- 2 for 3, 2B, HR(6).  BA= .295.  Brown's train keeps a rollin'!  I think we can officially switch off the concern about Brownie's future and start reveling in his terrific AA season.

High A  Lancaster Jethawks blanked the San Jose Giants 9-0:

Carter Jurica(2B)- 2 for 4.  BA= .281.
Joe Panik(SS)- 2 for 4.  BA= .264.
Nick Tropeano(RHP, Jethawks)- 6 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 3.24.

Jurica has thrived in the leadoff spot.  Panik seems to have shaken his slump.  Tropeano is a pitcher I really liked in the 2011 draft out of Stony Brook.

Low A  SAL was idle.

Short Season  Salem-Keizer Volcanoes buried the Everett Aquasox 11-4:

Kentrell Hill(LF)- 2 for 4, BB.  BA= .227.
Matt Duffy(SS)- 3 for 5, HR(1).  BA= .265.
Joseph Rapp(1B)- 2 for 5.  BA= .274.
Sam Eberle(C)- 2 for 4.  BA= .308.
Ryan Jones(2B)- 1 for 1, BB, HBP, SF.  BA= .267.
Raymundo Montero(RHP)- 5 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 0 K's.  ERA= 2.55.
Mason McVay(LHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 1.08.

Duffy drove in 6 runs in all.

Rookie AZL  Athletics topped the Giants 8-6:

Randy Ortiz(CF)- 1 for 4, 2B, BB, 2 SB(11).  BA= .267.
Johnathan "Mac" Williamson(DH)- 2 for 5, HR(1).  BA= .400.
Shilo McCall(LF)- 3 for 3, 2B, HR(1), BB, SB(4). BA= .302.
John Polonius(SS)- 2 for 4.  BA= .500.
Jonathan Jones(1B)- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .188.
Andrew Leenhouts(LHP)- 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 7.00.

Williamson makes a successful professional debut.  Love what Shilo McCall is doing so far!

DSL  Cubs2 edged the Giants 3-2:

Carlos Valdez(RF)- 1 for 4, 3B.  BA= .241.
Hengerber Medina(2B)- 2 for 3.  BA= .320.
Eber Guzman(RHP)- 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 4.58.
Shawn Gomez(RHP)- 2.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 3.44.

  1. Dominguez was in the top 3 in assists already, he might have the lead now. And that's in the league where he came in mid-season.

So glad to see the Gary Brown breakout. Apparently a lot of work on his stance and swing the first couple of months is paying off.

Very nice day for Williamson and McCall our big splashes from the draft. And I like what Ryan Jones has been doing as well.

  2. FYI, Duffy had a grand salami with his first homer.

    Wow about Dominguez's arm!

Honestly, I expected Brown to figure it out eventually, but obviously glad he's finally did.

Any news on why Stratton only pitched 2 innings? I was out for a while if someone don't mind catching me up. Any word on Agosta?

    1. They have Stratton on a very low pitch count since he pitched so many innings this year in college

    2. Yes. And also, who are these Williamson and McCall kids being talked about? I don't remember their profiles from the draft at all.

    3. Williamson is our 3rd round pick out of Wake, he has some serious power potential and serious contact issues, and a rifle of an arm. Hmmm... Sounds sort of familiar... The Chris Dominguez label will stick hard. He is a big guy with good speed, interesting pick.

McCall is the only HS player to be seriously drafted and sign with the Giants, the 9th round pick out of New Mexico HS. With Alex Bregman hurt, he was the Gatorade player of the year for the state. He's got a tweener label, might not be able to stick in CF. However, he is a physical guy with a nice frame, might be a sleeper.

Stratton is just getting his feet wet. I think Agosta is still in AZ right now OGC.

  3. Does anyone here have any information on Hengerber Medina or Klieber Rivas other than their statistics, etc?
