Game Wrap 6/7/2012: Giants 8 Padres 3

Matt Cain pitched a dominant game against the Pathetic Padres marred only be 3 unearned runs in the 3'rd inning.  The Giants offense was more than enough to overcome the miscues that led to those unearned runs.  Key Lines:

Gregor Blanco- 2 for 5, HR(3).  BA= .288.  Picked Blanco up for my fantasy team last night.  Paid off already!  Getting picked for my fantasy team is usually the kiss of death, so we'll see how it works out.

Ryan Theriot- 4 for 5, 2B, SB(3).  BA= .284.  Take your time, Freddy!

Buster Posey- 2 for 5, HR(7).  BA= .296.   What a difference Buster and Hector have made to the lineup compared to Whiteside and CStew of last year!

Angel Pagan- 2 for 5, HR(5), SB(12).  BA= .321.  Pagan's defensive miscues partially negate his terrific offense, but he's still on a pace for a 4 WAR season.  Meanwhile Andres Torres is hitting .216 for the Mess.  Great trade by Sabes.

Brandon Belt- 2 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .236.  Belt is slowly becoming an offensive contributor.

Matt Cain- 7 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 9 K's.  ERA= 2.41.  Cain gets the W and is now 7-2 on the year.  Could he actually win 20 games?

Santiago Casilla- 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K.  ERA= 1.46.  Not  a pretty line, but it's good he is healthy enough to go 1.1 IP.

The Dodgers just kept on winning as took their 3'rd in a row from the Phillies 8-3 to stay 4 games ahead of the second place Giants in the NL West.

The Giants now return home to kick off interleague season by hosting the Texas Rangers with Barry Zito going against Matt Harrison.   Should be a fun series between the 2010 World Series teams.

  1. interesting...posey is the only starting player from that ws team

belt had an e and misplayed a bunt...his bat work looks better, but if he doesnt start hitting for power, giants must start looking for options...apologists be damned

re torres: same story as last year. got off to a hot start (accepted the suggestion to use lighter bat and forget the dinger) got injured...and it totally screwed with him...since the end of may, he has been hitting much better...he was well below mendoza line and got ba to 240...then dropped down again...right now, being used as late inning def replacement...but like always, is taking it well

pagan is pagan...he is always gonna have those defensive lapses,in between great defensive games....but the bat is solid

arias made a play at the end of the game that pablo the fat could not make...

hey doc...ricky said his parents were at the game last night...did you have the chance to talk with his mom?

    1. Ricky's mom was very happy today, but she is always happy. She was just a little extra happy today. Gonna try to get to 1 or 2 of their games next week in I.E.

  2. Phillies actually lost 4 to the Dodgers. Have really enjoyed watching Philly decline, but would have been nice if they could have taken ONE at home against a beat up Dodger squad.

    1. I knew Rags had triplets and I knew they were a bit reason why he has never pursued other jobs in baseball. I did not know any other details. Thanks for the link, Bacci.

    2. ...er that should be big reason he hasn't pursued other jobs.

    3. I also knew about the triplets and that they were the main reason why he has stayed around instead of pursuing a manager's job. I've been worried the last couple of years that now that his kids are in college that he would look for an opportunity to be a manager and leave us. Especially now that the Giants have finally won a World Series (he was a big Giants fan growing up, if I recall). However, given the importance of family to him, I've been hoping that with his long tenure with the team, that the team will be his second family and he won't leave us.

I knew that they were preemies but was not aware of all the other difficulties. Thanks for sharing, I greatly appreciate it.

  6. OT: I subscribe to Baseball HQ's free weekly e-mail (baseball fantasy league info from Shandler) and they had an article on closers and didn't know where to share here: http://www.baseballhq.com/content/bullpens-going-fishing

Some closers alternatives that might come into play later in the season.
