Game Wrap 6/4/2012: Giants 3 Cubs 2

The Cubs are the type of team the Giants need to sweep if they want to catch and pass the Dodgers in the NL West.  All the games were close, but they got the job done as Ryan Vogelsong continued a string of strong pitching performances and the offense did just enough against Mullet Boy.  Key Lines:

Ryan Theriot- 2 for 5, SB(1).  BA= .236.  Riot has been a pretty good basestealer in the past, but this was his first successful one this year.

Buster Posey- 0 for 0, 4 BB.  BA= .295.  Buster was able to turn 2 of those BB's into runs.

Angel Pagan- 2 for 4.  BA= .318.

Brandon Belt- 1 for 2, 2 BB.  The Giants have become a much more patient team as they drew a total of 7 walks today.

Brandon Crawford- 1 for 4, 2B.  BA= .224.  Crawford drove in 2 of the Giants 3 runs, one with a fielder's choice at 2B in which Starlin Castro had a brain cramp and failed to relay it to first because he thought the force was the third out.  The second RBI was on a ringing double pulled to RF.

Ryan Vogelsong- 2 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 2.38.  Another solid start for Vogelsong. Especially like the 0 BB's.

Jeremy Affeldt- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 2.29, Save(1).  2 inning Save for Affeldt who is turning in a solid campaign so far.

The NL West leading Dodgers topped the Phillies this evening 4-3 so the Giants remain 3 games behind in second place.

The Giants now travel to San Diego for a series against the Pesky Padres with Tim Lincecum squaring off against Anthony Bass in game 1.

  1. Best thing about Belt's day? No strikeouts! I hope he can figure it out and get back to what made him successful. He's got all the skills the Giants need, except for the power. I don't even expect huge power from him. A slugging percentage around .450 would suffice. I just hope he continues to get consistent playing time.

  2. pleaee watch vogey's postgame to see a man at peace with himself...its pretty cool

vogey is pitching himself to kc...5 era in nl

riot is definitely playing himself into starting 2b...nothing against arias...who should stay with the club

on the other hand...pablo has gotta wake up...in this world, you only get so many second chances...even if you are popular and talented

a's reported 10k at the almost no no...a's count fans like giants used to at the stick...there were more fans at the stockton game than at the former coliseum

    1. Realistically, I can easily see Oakland without a single professional team within 10 years:

Warriors to SF, Raiders to LA (they want an expansion team, but they'd take the Raiders back), A's to San Jose, Sacramento, Stockton, Anywhere.

  3. Tighten up our defense, and watch the Cubbies unravel. They gave away 3 of the 4 games. Have to win these types of series. Good for the 4 game win streak. Can The Franchise buck up, avoid the big inning and give us a 5 game win streak?
