Down on the Farm: 4/6/2012

AAA Tucson Padres overtook the Fresno Grizzlies 4-3:

Justin Christian(CF)- 2 for 3, BB, SB(1).
Jackson Williams(C)- 2 for 4, 2 2B. BA= .250.
Brian Burres(LHP)- 5.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 3.18.

Christian came in for Graham in the bottom of the first. Injury? Burres is probably the Giants 6'th starter right now.

AA First Game New Britain Rock Cats downed the Flying Squirrels 6-2:

Chris Dominguez(LF)- 2 for 3, 2 2B. BA= 571. Chris D is starting out hot. He went 0 for 3 in game 2 to lower his BA to .400.

Game 2: New Britain Rock Cats topped the Squirrels 4-1:

Gary Brown(CF)- 3 for 3. BA= .444. Brown is starting out on the right track.

High A San Jose Giants crushed the Modesto Nuts 15-3:

Andrew Susac(C)- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .200.
Joe Panik(SS)- 2 for 4, 2B, BB. BA= .333.
Luke Anders(DH)- 2 for 5, 2B, HR(1). BA= .375.
Ricky Oropesa(1B)- 2 for 5. BA= .375.
Jarrett Parker(LF)- 1 for 3, HR(2), 2 BB. BA= .286.
Carter Jurica(2B)- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .250.
Taylor Rogers(RHP)- 5 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 3.60.
Josh Osich- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 0.00
Luis Rojas- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 0.00. 22 yo RHP.

Anders' dinger was with the bases loaded. 2 HR's in 2 days for Parker who is repeating the level. Jurica is also repeating the level, has moved to 2B. Looks like Osich is starting out in the bullpen. I think Rojas came along with Pagan from the Mets.

Low A Augusta Greenjackets came from behind to edge the Savannah Sand Gnats 6-5:

Jose Cuevas(3B)- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .222.
Ben Thomas(1B)- 2 for 4. 2B. BA= .429.
Shawn Payne(LF)- 2 for 3, SB(1). BA= .286.
Chris Marlowe(RHP)- 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Demondre Arnold(RHP)- 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 4.50.
Cody Hall(RHP)- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 0.00.

I'm excited about the Augusta rotation. Marlowe has a successful start. Hall is a hard throwing sleeper who has only been pitching for a couple of years.

  1. Fresno has 3 players that hopefully have good seasons. Charlie Culberson - Lets face it, 2nd base is a question mark after F. Sanchez.. Francisco Peguero - They lack RH hitting outfielders on the big club.. Roger Kieshnick - I liked his LH power hitting stroke watching him in the Hawaii Winter League.

Chris Dominguez - Does converting him to LF help his chances of making the big leagues? Interesting move..

Congrats to Chris Marlowe on a sucessful 1st start. I hope his mom got to watch him today.. I remember her posting here on how proud she was of Chris chasing his dream. Great job!

    1. Dominguez isn't real young for even a AA prospect, so Pablo blocking him at 3B is a big deal. I think any time a player can gain flexibility in what position they play, it creates more opportunities at the MLB level.

  2. I have a feeling that the SJ lineup is going to be putting up some serious scores on teams.

Nice to see Augusta score some runs. That lineup might struggle, just as well, we'll prepare that beautiful rotation for Giants baseball. Start em young!

  3. Looks like Zach Wheeler struggled in his 1st start for Binghamton (AA) last night: 3 IP 2R 4H 3W 4K 71 pitches. Can't judge anything by 1st start though.. Maybe he has command issues. No sense crying about the trade, hope the kid does well..

    1. Read that Wheels' velocity hit 98 in that game. Command is definitely an issue but awesome raw talent and plenty of time to refine it.

  4. Actually, Luis Rojas was a Rule 5 Draft pick from the Mets.
