Down on the Farm: 4/29/2012

AAA  Fresno Grizzlies edged the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 4-3:

Francisco Peguero(RF)- 2 for 4.  BA= .229.
Roger Kieschnick(LF)- 2 for 3, HR(6), BB.  BA= .358
Nick Noonan(3B)- 2 for 3, BB, SB(2).  BA= .304.
Yusmeiro Petit(RHP)- 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 5.11.
Heath Hembree(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(5).  ERA= 2.00.

Gotta think we're gonna see Hembree in SF before the year is out.

AA  New Britain Rock Cats downed the Richmond Flying Squirrels 5-2:

Gary Brown(CF)- 1 for 4, 2B.  BA= .224.
Juan Perez(RF)- 2 for 4.  BA= .298.
Ehire Adrianza(SS)- 1 for 3, 2B.  BA= .237.

Nice to see  some signs of life from the bats of Brown and Adrianza.

High A  Visalia Rawhide defeated the San Jose Giants 5-1:

Josh Osich(LHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 0.00.
Edward Concepcion(RHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 9.64.
Seth Rosin(RHP)-  0.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 0 K's.  ERA= 2.35.

Osich continues to be lights out in very limited exposure.  If you don't think Bauer, Bradley and Skaggs are scary enough, the Giants were dominated this weekend by a trio of D'Backs pitching prospects, Holmberg, Chafin and Anthony Meo.

Low A  Augusta Greenjackets blanked the Hagerstown Suns 2-0:

Ben Thomas(1B)- 2 for 4, SB(1).  BA= .279.
Jose Cuevas(3B)- 2 for 3, 2B, BB. BA= .268.
Kyle Crick(RHP)- 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 8 K's, 2 HBP, WP.  ERA= 2.30.
Derek Law(RHP)- 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 3.97.
Cody Hall(RHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, Save(5).  ERA= 3.00.

If you are feeling anxious about the future of Giants pitching, just stare at this line from Kyle Crick for a minute.  That ought to calm your nerves a bit!  Still has a bit of a wild hair up his nose, but you can see the dominance beginning to build.

  1. When Crick was drafted he basically threw a fastball and a fringe change & curve if I remember correctly. Is there any news as to whether he is just blowing people away with his fastball or if there are signs of major improvement with the breaking stuff? Not worried about the development, as the Giants do a great job at that... more wondering where he is in his natural trajectory from a hard thrower to a pitcher.

    1. I would think fastball command is the first order of business for Crick. It appears he may be making some progress on that front but too short a sample size to draw any definite conclusions.

  2. Our much anticipated SJ hitting lineup hasn't come correct yet. I have faith, they're just getting their feet wet. The K rate isn't good though. May should bring some good ball. That AZ talent is scary, AZ has basically copied the Giants to a T. Huge pitching development going on.

    1. I think there is more and better pitching than usual in the Cal League this year. Visalia is obviously loaded. The Dodgers have their last 2 first rounders in RC, I think. High Desert has a stud or two as does Bakersfield.

    1. That's not good news about Osich this soon after TJ. Oh well, they only spent a 6'th round pick on him. It was worth the gamble even if he's a complete injury bust.

  4. Did you happen to see Darvish pitch today Dr. B? Pretty nasty stuff, 4 - 0 now with a lot of K's and real dirty repertoire of pitches. Has your opinion on him changed at all or are you still skeptical?

    1. Still skepical that he's worth what Texas paid for him. Much rather have Cainer and MadBum.
