Down on the Farm: 4/26/2012

AAA  Fresno Grizzlies blanked the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 3-0:

Justin Christian(CF)- 2 for 4, SB(3).  BA= .420.
Francisco Peguero(RF)- 1 for 3, 2B.  BA= .197.
Charlie Culberson(2B)- 2 for 3, HR(2), SB(1).  BA= .313.
Travis Blackley(LHP)- 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 0.39.
Heath Hembree(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, Save(3).  ERA= 2.57.

Frankie Pegs hitting .243 over his last 10 games.  Wonder what Blackley is doing different?

AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels edged the Reading Phillies 2-1:

Wendell Fairley(RF-LF)- 2 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .130.
Gary Brown(CF)- 1 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .211.
Ryan Cavan(2B)- 1 for 2, HR(2).  BA= .288.
Mike Kickham(LHP)- 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 5 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 2.55.
Brett Bochy(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

Fairley has been invisible this year before today.  Baby steps for Brown.  Kickham had 2 WP's in addition to his 2 walks.  Bochy was credited with a Blown Save after Kickham gave up a leadoff double.  Bochy got 2 flyball outs, but the runner got to 3B with the first and scored on the SF with the second.  Bochy has now pitched 10.1 IP without being charged with an ER.  He's allowed just 7 baserunners, so he's pitching good.

High A
Game 1  San Jose Giants blanked the High Desert Mavericks 3-0:

Carter Jurica(2B)- 2 for 3.  BA= .345.
Devin Harris(RF)- 1 for 2, HR(2).  BA= .147.
Freddy Sanchez(DH)- 1 for 3.  BA= .400.
Jack Snodgrass(LHP)- 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's, GO/AO= 11/2.  ERA= 1.61.
Josh Osich(LHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, O R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(1).  ERA= 0.00.

While not exactly a surprise, Snodrgrass has certainly been a pleasant development so far this year.  Osich is used in a soft Save situation and gets credit for his first.

Game 2  High Desert Mavericks stampeded the San Jose Giants 6-0:

Giants managed just 2 hits.  Nothing to see in the pitching ledger.

Low A  Augusta Greenjackets downed the Kannapolis Intimidators 7-2:

Kelby Tomlinson(SS)- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .280.
Elliott Blair(CF)- 3 for 3, 2B, HR(1).  BA= .240.
Joe Staley(C)- 1 for 2, HR(1), SF, Sac.  BA= .143.
Clayton Blackburn(RHP)- 4 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 7 K's, GO/AO= 5/1.  ERA= 2.95.
Derek Law(RHP)- 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 5.40.
Adalberto Mejia(LHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 14.73.
Steven Neff(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 8.22.

I think Elliott Blair is a sleeper.  Didn't play much in college, but the Giants scouts obviously saw something.  Love the K's from Blackburn.  One question about him is if he has swing and miss stuff.  Baby steps for Mejia.

bochy will be in the show. question is, will he be playing for his old man....only reason i ask, wanna compare head sizes when they are both on the mound

i like the change in org philosophy when it comes to the roving coaches...and i like deckers style...comparable to the harbaugh bros...the stuff they do is cheesy, but it gets results

  2. Mabye except for the hitters in Fresno, pitchers are off to better starts than hitters. Lots of position guys in Richmond, San Jose and August need to get going.

  3. Check out Amy G's interview of Nate's wifey Kate. Nate and Kate. How cute! Took me awhile to catch who introduced them but Alex Hinshaw's wife played basketball with Kate at SD State.
