Game Wrap 9/9/2011: Dodgers 2 Giants 1

In what has become a familiar story line, Tim Lincecum and the Giants were unable to make a 1-0 lead hold up wasting another excellent pitching effort by a Giants starting pitcher. Key Lines:

Justin Christian- 0 for 4, SB(1). BA= .100. Christian got on base to lead off the game on a GB to the hole that Dee Gordon double clutched and then drew Loney off the bag. Christian probably would have been out on a clean play, but just barely. Dude is fast! He then stole 2B and eventually scored on Sandoval's single to center. The Giants only got 2 more hits the rest of the night, one on a bunt single by CStew. Overall, I thought he had as good AB's as anybody against Failbeard.

Tim Lincecum- 8 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 2.68. Timmy still had his 1-0 lead with 2 outs in the 8'th and an 0-2 count on Matt Kemp. Kemp then beat out a dribbler, stole 2B and came home on a blooper down the 3B line that fell in no-man's land. Talk about pitching in bad luck!

Clayton "Failbeard" Kershaw- 8 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 9 K's. ERA= 2.36. Hate to say it, but Kershaw might be the best pitcher in the NL right now, his failed beard notwithstanding.

With the Loss, the Giants fell even further off the pace in the NL West as the D'Backs came from behind to top the Pathetic Padres 3-2.

A very deserving Ryan Vogelsong was presented with the Willie Mac Award before the game. No matter what happens the rest of his career or life, I am sure he will treasure this season as will his family and friends.

Ryan Vogelsong takes the mound tonight against LHP Dana Eveland in a game that starts at 6 PM PDT.

Jeremy Affeldt suffered a season ending injury to his right hand(non-throwing) while trying to pry loose frozen hamburger patties while barbecuing. Sounds like there may have been some nerve damage. Affeldt has a $5 M option for next year that the Giants are likely to decline. Word is they are planning to try to sign him for less $$ via free agency.

  1. for the first time in 20 years, the voice of jon miller will be silenced in the post season

  2. Well, if the Giants aren't playing, then I don't have to listen to Bobby Valentine. That guy is almost unbearable.

  3. who do you think will have smaller turnouts during the lds...az or atl

two fan bases that dont deserve the success of their teams

i think gibson is a shoe in for manager of the year, with fredi gonzalez being a close second

i hope that after this series, the giants announce that they are shutting down both wilson and nate

let us hope that the players take the long offseason to heal and work out

if any come into camp the way huff did....they shouldnt make it out of st...and that includes huff

really hope espn rethinks their lineup for next season...valentine should be out

  4. Yeah, I think an offseason out of the spotlight would do some of these players a lot of good. Seems like Sandoval was the only one who worked hard last offseason.

No reality series next year either, and for crissakes, Wilson needs to shave that beard!

  5. dont know...the beard is becoming very much like fingers' stache...and you would never think of getting rollie to take that off

wilson is a throwback to the barn stormin era...i kinda like it

i dont think the series had anything to do with the giants issues...during the majority, they were winning

    it may have affected torres

i think the series, the doc and his injury, totally threw him off...gotta be a killer having add so severe, especially when you are an adult

the series showed me a lot of things

not sure why derosa isnt just hanging em up and heading for the booth, where he belongs

zito doesnt like playing baseball anymore, and may not have since he became a giant...he is a tennis brat...pushed by dad and only still going to make his ailing dad feel proud...cant succeed at doing something you arent happy at doing

very good reason both rowand and miggs werent highlighted at all

would love to see the stuff that didnt make the show

  6. Panda singled to left in the 1st and Timmy gave up the lead on a single through the box, then the bloop hit. The offense again went up with no game plan and made no adjustments. Fantastic pitching waisted again. Sabean stood pat in the offseason, you can't do that in sports, things are constantly evolving.

  7. Uh, I think a whole bunch of injuries to key players including one of the best offensive catchers in the game might have had something to do with where the Giants are now.

What players would you have acquired that Sabean did not this past offseason?

  8. Drb, I was glad to read that Brandon Belt decided to play Winter Ball in the Dominican Republic. Disappointed that he resisted at 1st though. It should be benificial for him to get more abs over the winter to work on his game so he can be ready in 2012. He only signed in 2009 so its not a major setback if he's not a finished product yet.

  9. The DR winter leagues tend to be strong pitching environments. The more AB's Brandon Belt gets against good pitching the better.
