Down on the Farm: 8/31/2011

AAA Reno Aces edged the Fresno Grizzlies 4-3: Nothing to see here.

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels downed the New Britain Rock Cats 8-4:

Darren Ford(CF)- 3 for 4, 2B, BB. BA= .293.
Charlie Culberson(2B)- 3 for 5, 2 2B. BA= .257.

Hector Correa(RHP)- 4 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 0 K. ERA= 3.47.

Culberson had virtually disappeared for several weeks until putting up some nice lines the last couple of games. Strange lines from Schumer and Correa with no K's. in the game until Hembree got 2 in the 9'th.

High A San Jose Giants battered the Bakersfield Blaze 10-1:

Gary Brown(CF)- 1 for 5, BB, SB(50). BA= .336.
Ehire Adrianza(SS)- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .300.

Jacob Dunnington(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 1.23.

Low A SAL was idle.

Short Season Salem-Keizer Volcanoes blanked the Tri-City Dust Devils 4-0:

Jesus Galindo(CF)- 2 for 2, 3B, BB, SF, SAC, 2 SB(45). BA= .281.
Kaohi Downing(2B)- 2 for 5. BA= .312.
Joe Panik(SS)- 3 for 5. BA= .337.
Cameron Lamb(RHP)- 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's, GO/AO= 10/1.
Cody Hall(RHP)- 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 2.73.

Looking forward to a very interesting San Jose team next year. Not sure if Galindo makes the jump to SJ or goes one step up to Augusta.

Rookie AZL Dodgers win the AZL Championship with a 4-2 win over the Giants:

Eric Sim(C)- 2 for 2, 2B, 2 HBP.
Cristian Paulino(2B)- 2 for 3, 2B.
Joan Gregorio(RHP)- 4.1 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 5 K's.
Miguel Ferrer(RHP)- 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.
Derek Law(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.

Cautiously optimistic about Gregorio and Paulino, really, about the others too, but especially Gregorio and Paulino.

  1. Doc, have you seen Adrianza play this Summer? Thoughts? Might that 300 BA translate to 250 in the bigs?

  2. Anyone has an idea about who will be called up and when?
Richmond and San Jose will likely be in the play-offs.

  3. Right now, yeah, Adrianza would have trouble hitting .250 or even .200 in the majors. He's still a work in progress. I think he's made progress though. As amazing as it may seem, I think he may have more range than Brandon Crawford, but maybe not as strong an arm.

It will all come down to whether he can hit at the MLB level. He's good enough defensively that .230 or so might be enough.

  4. I think that's a pretty fair assessment of Adrianza. He looks like he's added a bit of muscle this year and I think that's helped with his bat. I think he's listed at about 18 pounds heavier than last year and you can see it on him, but hasn't affected his range at all. We'll see if he can keep it up.
