Down on the Farm: 8/14/2011

AAA Albuquerque Isotopes staved off a comeback by the Fresno Grizzlies to win 9-8:

Bill Hall(3B-SS)- 3 for 4, 2 HR(4) BB. BA= .327.
Hector Sanchez(C)- 3 for 4, 2B, HR(1). BA= .274.
Dan Runzler(LHP)- 4 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 4 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 4.17.

AA Binghampton Mets defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels 7-3:

Francisco Peguero(RF)- 1 for 4, SB(6). BA= .289.
Juan Perez(CF)- 3 for 4, 2B. BA= .248.
Chris Dominguez(3B)- 1 for 4, 3B. BA= .258.

High A San Jose Giants beat the Lancaster Jethawks 7-5 in 10 innings:

Gary Brown(CF)- 2 for 6. BA= .324.
Ehire Adrianza(SS)- 2 for 4, 2 HR(2), BB. BA= .295.
Jarrett Parker(RF)- 2 for 5, HR(11). BA= .274.
Alex Burg(1B)- 2 for 2, HR(8), 3 BB. BA= .290.
Michael Main(RHP)- 2.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K. ERA= 6.08.
Jake Dunning(RHP)- 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 4.54.

Low A Augusta Greenjackets downed the Greensboro Grasshoppers 9-6:

Devin Harris(LF)- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(12), BB. BA= .226.
Ryan Scoma(1B)- 3 for 3, HR(5), BB. BA= .245.
Robert Haney(SS)- 1 for 4, HR(2). BA= .230.

Harris is hitting .333 over his last 10 games with a .442 OBP and .694 SLG%. Scoma is also hitting .333 over his last 10.

Short Season Salem-Keizer Volcanoes came out on top of a pitching duel 1-0 over the Spokane Indians:

Chuckie Jones(DH)- 2 for 3. BA= .274.
Cameron Lamb(RHP)- 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 5.40
Cody Hall(RHP)- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's, Save(3). ERA= 3.06.

Jones was the only Volcano to get more than 1 hit. I'm pretty sure this was Lamb's best appearance as a pro. Hall has 27 K's in 17.2 IP. He seems to have taken over as S-K's closer.

Rookie AZL Giants scored 6 runs in the 9'th inning for a come-from-behind win over the D'Backs 8-3:

Eric Sim(C)- 2 for 4, HR(6), BB, SB(4). BA= .336.
Major Blair(LF)- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .370.
Jean Delgado(2B)- 1 for 2, 2B, 2 BB. BA= .255.
Paul Davis(RHP)- 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 3.62.
Demondre Arnold(RHP)- 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 1.42.

DSL Giants game was cancelled.

  1. Doc, I understand if you delete this post. I will not be offended if I come back later and find it gone (seriously).

I just want to get the word out that a bunch of us from e Disney boards have migrated to a 'new' board and it it really good. All you guys are more than invited to stop by and contribute to out GDTs that usually get at least 250 posts, and usually some pretty good analysis.

We are all at sportshoopla now. Give us a shot.

I hope I have not crossed the line here, doc. I love your blog and respect it a lot. I just see a lot of good posters here and thought they may like it.

  2. Doc, if Susac signs, where do think that puts the catching situation with the recent revelation re joseph's defense and his improvement over the sjecond half of the season? Would ToJo and Susac share duties in SJ or would one get the bump to Richmond? I would assume Sanchez and Monell share Fresno duties and Williams gets relegated to system filler.

  3. bucs going down to the wire in signing cole...interesting

also interesting that teams seem to be signing lower draft choices a bit above slot...i think the cubbies gave gretzky a bit too much

giants gotta put zito on the 60 day....he isnt coming back in sept, and runzler still seems not to be able to go past 5...they gotta get surkamp on the 40 mane

giants gonna have a heck of a time protecting all of their top arms during the offseason...afraid they may lose either otero or verdugo

  4. CSS,

I don't mind someone coming on and letting everybody know about a Giants oriented website. Off topic websites or repeated spamming of links to other websites of course would be frowned upon.

If you don't mind, go ahead and put in the web address of your new site and I'll check it out. Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, if Susac signs, the Giants really have a motherlode of catching talent in the organization. I agree that Monell and Sanchez catch at Fresno next year. Joseph moves up to Richmond. The guys who really get hurt by Susac's presence would be the troika at Salem-Keizer: Murray, Staley and Burkhart. With Eric Sim making a lot of noise in Arizona, somebody is going to get left off the bus.

  5. Bacci,

I think it's going to be a crazy offseason no matter what. Lots of seemingly dead wood coming off the books for the big club: I just don't see the Giants signing Cody Ross to a long term deal or for any more $$$ than he's making now, for instance. Then there's Tejada, Burrell, DeRosa. Torres seems to have fallen way out of favor. Most of the bullpen will need new contracts and they might be starting to get expensive. It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out including 40 man roster adds to protect from Rule 5 draft.

  6. Anybody know the details of Ehire Adrianza's sudden power explosion?

  7. Lyle,

They were playing in Lancaster. That's the most likely explanation: High desert, hot, wind blowing straight out at 22 MPH.

  9. I'm really encouraged by Chuckie Jones' progression this year. It's too bad he couldn't have got more time in. He may be a good one.

I'm also really encouraged by how strong Joseph's come on as of late. All this catching talent sure could make Posey an appealing first basemen in a few years.

Finally, what's your best guess as to why Panik did not get a promotion. Man, a jump start on a quick progression through system next year would have been nice.

  11. dunston jr signed with cubs...dont really get it

gives up a vandy scholarship and a chance at a higher draft pick for the grind of the low minors

most likely is headed for az for rookie ball

  12. Thanks for the comments and questions everybody.

I don't really know about Panik. Maybe they just wanted him to get acclimated to the pros and get a look at his D at Shortstop. In general, I don't think there is the same urgency for fast tracking the kids like there was 3-4 seasons ago.

Not looking forward to Bauer pitching in AZ. I think he's trouble in the same way Timmy is trouble for other teams.

As for Shawon Dunston Jr. , some kids just want to get started on their pro career using wood bats and pro coaching from the get-go.

  15. Yeah, $1.25 M will convince you a college education isn't all that after all. No word on Ricky? All indications from Mom are that he is all but signed. He really wants to get on with his pro career.

  16. According to BA, Ricky signed for $550K. Very nice that the Giants signed their 1st 13 picks!
