Down on the Farm: 7/25/2011

First off, I'd like to send a though up to the Big Guy re. Dave Cameron who writes for fangraphs.com. He posted yesterday that he has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia(AML) one of the nastier diseases lurking out there. He's got a tough row to hoe here and I want to wish him success in this fight.

AAA Fresno Grizzlies beat the Colorado Springs Skysox 8-3:

Justin Christian(CF-LF)- 2 for 3, 2B, 2 BB, OF Assist(2B). BA= .311.
Bill Hall(2B)- 1 for 3, BB. BA= .500.
Mark DeRosa(3B)- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .333.
Brad Eldred(RF)- 1 for 3, HR(18), SB(6). BA= .269.

Christian has really had a fine season and probably deserves a shot at a reserve OF gig in the majors with some team. DeRosa's wrist seems to be holding up so far. If he's healthy, he could be an offensive upgrade at 2B with Kepp moving over to SS.

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels edged the Erie Seawolves 3-2:

Wes Hodges(1B)- 2 for 4, HR(6). BA= .282.
Johnny Monell(C)- 2 for 4. BA= .260.
Roger Kieschnick(RF)- 1 for 4, 2B, SB(13). BA= .268
Ryan Verdugo(LHP)- 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 3.75.

Keeping the walks down is Verdugo's main task right now. Good game for him!

High A San Jose Giants held off a late rally by the Visalia Rawhide to hang on for an 8-6 win:

Gary Brown(CF)- 2 for 5. BA= .317.
Tommy Joseph(C)- 2 for 4. BA= .253.
James Simmons(RF)- 1 for 4, HR(7). BA= .309.
Kelvin Marte(LHP)- 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 3.40.

Low A Lakewood Blueclaws topped the Augusta Greenjackets 3-1:

Rafael Rodriguez(LF)- 2 for 4, OF Assist(Home). BA= .239.
Mike Kickham(LHP)- 6.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 4.54.

Kickham took a shutout into the 7'th inning.

Short Season Salem-Keizer Volcanoes out hit the Vancouver Canadians 10-6:

Joe Panik(SS)- 1 for 5, 3B. BA= .324.
Mike Murray(DH)- 2 for 4, BB. BA= .400.
Brett Krill(RF)- 4 for 5, 2B. BA= .407.
Brice Cutspec(1B)- 2 for 5, HR6). BA= .253.

Murray and Krill continue to rake. I'm really interested, especially with Krill, to see what they do at higher levels next year. I thought Krill was a sleeper but he's been sensational so far.

Rookie AZL Giants downed the Brewers 3-1:

Clayton Blackburn(RHP)- 4 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 4 K's, GO/AO= 7/1. ERA= 0.79.
Brian Maloney(LHP)- 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 3.55.

Blackburn gets his first pro start and gives up his first pro run. Still a fine outing for the kid. Maloney now has 21 K's against 5 BB's in 12.2 IP,

DSL Giants outscored the Rangers 10-8:

Renzo Freite(RHP, 18 yo)- 6.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 2.40.

Surprisingly, not much to see on offense. Typical DSL game as Giants drew a total of 9 walks.
