Down on the Farm: 6/7//2011

Fresno Grizzlies bombed the Las Vegas 51's 12-4:

Tyler Graham(CF)- 2 for 5, HR(1). BA= .282.
Edgar Gonzalez(SS-3B)- 3 for 4, 2B, BB. BA= .293.
Pablo Sandoval(3B)- 1 for 3, HR(1). BA= .333.
Brad Eldred(DH)- 2 for 4, HR(9). BA= .297.
James Simmons(RF)- 4 for 4, HR(3). BA= .429.
Andrew Kown(RHP)- 7.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 3.75.

Encouraging to see the dinger from Pablo. Wrist injuries can suppress power for awhile. Simmons has been hot before, so we'll see. Maybe the league hasn't figured out he can't hit breaking balls and is throwing him fastballs? Best athlete in the organzation!

AA Portland Sea Dogs blanked the Richmond Flying Squirrels 6-0:

Clayton Tanner(LHP)- 4.1 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 4.91.
Henry Sosa(RHP)- 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 0.00.

The offense only managed 2 hits. Another rough outing for Tanner who seems to be too dependent on the whims of BABIP to be consistent. Sosa starts with a clean slate a rung lower. That's a dominant line, but he had those every once in awhile for Fresno too.

A+ San Jose Giants topped the Stockton Ports 10-7 in 11 innings:

Ryan Cavan(2B)- 2 for 6, 3B. BA= .269.
Francisco Peguero(CF)- 2 for 5, HR(1), Assist(3B). BA= .375.
Jarrett Parker(RF)- 2 for 4, BB, SB(10). BA= .264.
Tommy Joseph(C)- 1 for 5, 3B(2). BA= .236.
Carter Jurica(SS)- 2 for 5, 2B, HR(4). BA= .253

Not sure why they are playing Peguero in CF when they have Brown and Peguero played RF all last year so Juan Cruz could play CF. Man, to see Tommy Joseph run out a triple would be worth the price of admission by itself. I wonder if there were any Richter Scale readings? Jurica is hitting .306 over his last 10 games with a SLG% of .528. He's 9 for his last 18 AB's.

Low A Augusta Greenjackets defeated the Charleston River Dogs 4-1:

Taylor Rogers(RHP)- 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 2.52.
Jacob Dunnington(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 3.00.

DSL Nationals edged the Giants 7-6:

Shurendell Mujica(SS, 20 yo)- 2 for 3, 2 BB. BA= .280.
Alberto Robles(2B, 10 yo)- 2 for 4, BB. BA= .400.
Julio Pena(OF, 19 yo)- 1 for 4, HR(1). BA= .118.

  1. Seems like they are preparing Peguero to play any OF position, don't it? They seem to be keeping certain players in the position the Giants think he'll stick in (like Parker in RF, Cruz in CF), then slot Peguero in somewhere.

Or do you think that they are preparing him for a utility role? Seems too early to give up on him starting at some point, so I wouldn't think so.

And speaking of Brown, did the Giants give him the night off or something? FYI, he recently joined Twitter, he seems as funny there as in interviews I've seen of him. Hope he can keep that, like breath of fresh air.

the hope is that he returns tuesday in az...

im taking it that both fontenot and ford will be in slc too this weekend...i think both are eligible to be reactivated on friday

side note....neal tweeted about the energy of the crowd, and how it helped the team

i cannot state again the importance of large crowds in the minors as a help in development
