Down on the Farm: 6/12//2011

AAA Salt Lake City Bees stung the Fresno Grizzlies 4-0:

Nothing to see in this one.

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels pounded the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 9-3:

Charlie Culberson(2B)- 1 for 5, 2 SB(8). BA= .259.
Roger Kieschnick(RF)- 2 for 4, 3B, BB, 2 SB(8). BA= .254.
Nick Noonan(SS)- 3 for 5, 2B. BA= .228.
Clayton Tanner(LHP)- 7 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K's, GO/AO= 11/3. ERA= 4.66.

Noonan had been in a brutal slump. Kieshnick stays hot with a .350 BA in his last 10 games. He hit .205 in April, .260 in May and .351 so far in June.

A+ San Jose Giants topped the Modesto Nuts 4-1:

Nick Liles(3B)- 2 for 5. BA= .321.
Francisco Peguero(CF)- 2 for 5, 2B, Assist(home). BA= .341.
Jarrett Parker(RF)- 2 for 4, 2B, BB. BA= .259.
Alex Burg(C)- 3 for 3, HR(1). BA= .579.
Chris Heston(RHP)- 7 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 8 K's, GO/AO= 8/3. ERA= 3.57.
Heath Hembree(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K's, Save(20). ERA= 0.76.

Dominant start for Heston. Brown, Dominguez and Joseph got the day off.

Low A Augusta Greenjackets edged the Lexington Legends 4-3 in 10 innings:

Carlos Willoughby(2B)- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .278.
Adam Duvall(3B)- 2 for 4, HR(15). BA= .258.
Jacob Dunnington(RHP)- 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 3.96.

Duvall leads the organization in HR's by a significant margin.

DSL Giants had the day off as they do almost every Sunday.

  3. At what point do we start considering Adam Duvall a prospect? 22 year old in low-A (23 in September) with some fine HR numbers. Any report on his defense?

  4. Duvall just got switched to 3B this year after the season started and has made a lot of errors. He's certainly shown serious power, but the relatively low BA does not bode well for his ability to sustain it at higher levels. As you point out, he's already a bit older for the league. I try to keep an open mind on these as much as possible. You don't want to be irrationally exhuberant nor do you want to write a kid off prematurely. I say, wait and see what happens. As always, the acid test will be when he hits AA if he gets that far.
