Down on the Farm: 5/6//2011

AAA Tucson Padres edged the Fresno Grizzlies 3-2:

Andres Torres(CF)- 1 for 4, BB. BA= .143.
Brett Pill(2B)- 1 for 3, 2B, BB. BA= .347
Doug Mathis(RHP)- 6 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K's, GO/AO= 8/1. ERA= 4.88.
Marc Kroon(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 3.09.

Maybe Torres needs another game or two to get ready? Pill seems to be the regular 2B for now. Interesting!

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels downed the Altoona Curve 5-3:

Justin Christian(LF)- 2 for 4. BA= .287.
Mike McBryde(RF)- 3 for 4, 2B, HR(1). BA= .261.

McBryde is hitting .333/.405/.528 over his last 10 games.

A+: San Jose Giants crushed the Bakersfield Blaze 17-7:

Gary Brown(DH)- 5 for 7, 2 2B. BA= .345.
Jarrett Parker(CF)- 1 for 4, HR(4), 2 BB. BA= .231.
Alexander Burg(2B)- 5 for 6. BA= .462.
Carter Jurica(SS)- 3 for 5, 3 2B, BB. BA= .231.
Andy Reichard(RHP)- 5.2 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K. ERA= 1.96

Great game to pad the ol' stat lines. Burg was drafted last year as a catcher but played 2B this game. He's played sparingly so far this season.

Low A Augusta Greenjackets downed the West Virginia Power 4-1:

Devin Harris(RF)- 1 for 4, HR(7). BA= .247.
Robert Haney(SS)- 1 for 3, HR(1). BA= .167.

I believe Harris leads the organization in HR's. Haney has just started playing in the last few days. This was his 4'th game of he season. Drafted in round 22 last year.

  1. pill did play ss in hs...and has a good enough arm to pitch

bond is out...burris and rohlinger are with the big club...and no one is ready to get bumped from richmond...and this is good for pill...gives the big club more options should there be more injuries....and he may look better to trade partners

giants were pretty clear that they want torres in fresno for the weekend...at the least

they dont wanna rush him the way they rushed cody

i hope that omar rethinks his statements regarding not wanting to coach in the minors before getting an mlb job....cuz if griffey can work his way up....so can omar

btw...why in the world did jr's kid choose football over baseball....blasphemy

  2. Brown is certainly proving his naysayers wrong by exceeding expectations, even if it is in the Cal League. I think he will be moved up to Richmond by mid-season. When do you expect him to take over CF in SF?

  3. Guys who are stars in major college baseball programs often are essentially ready out of the box. I mean, look at Tim Lincecum and Buster Posey. Maybe just a bit of fine tuning but they were essentially ready. I would think Brown could move up to AA right now. If he excels there too, he could be in Fresno by Aug 1 then play in the AFL this fall and have a chance to win a job out of spring training next year. I see no reason why that isn't possible.

  4. Ford is probably the guy feeling the heat, as Brown can fill his role in September.

  5. I'll just add that the guy who may have started a bit slower but has been coming on like gangbusters and is showing some serious power potential is Jarrett Parker. Looks like the Giants may have snagged one outstanding OF prospect and another very good one with the top 2 picks in last year's draft.

Another point: Gotta give kudos to the Giants scouting staff. If you look around at other top college OF's drafted last year, Brown really looks like the cream of the crop. Leon Landry, Tyler Holt, Ryan LaMarre, Rico Noel, you name him, Brown is putting up the best numbers at the highest level of all of them.

  6. I am a giants fan from ny so I hear about the mets all the time. They have been looking for a 2b for a while. I think that maybe this pill move to second base maybe a way to get Reyes.
