  1. a month in...any predictions as to whom may get a bump at the break?

in a recent interview, decker was pretty blunt about pitchers were gonna be handled in fresno...that the org isnt keen on holding onto dead wood...so, think they test surkamp's ceiling?

will hembree skip aa next season? he seems to be more advanced at his age, then wilson was

  2. I've kind of given up on predicting promotions. Too many variables go into it: Specific skills we may not know about, organizational needs, etc.

I'm not a big fan of the "closer track" but both Hembree and Stoffel have been impressive this year. Hembree, in particular, has MLB closer velocity on his heater.

  3. In other news, Brandon Belt is hitting 1.001, which is more than a hit per at-bat. He also walks the rest of the time, so his on base percentage is somewhere around 1.500. That may or may not be the highest since Barry Bonds.

I don't care if he has to play 3B at this point, we need him on this team soon. Give him 5 or 6 more games to cement his confidence, that way he knows he has nothing to prove except for at the MLB level and promote him. He has to struggle and fight for at least 250 or 300 AB's in my opinion before any real idea of what his bat holds can even start to be revealed.

  4. (the 3B comment was a joke. not even a little league manager would play a lefty at 3B!)

  5. I think the 1.001 must be his SLG%. His BA is about .500.

  6. I think Jazz was just making a point that Belt is hitting the cover off anything that resembles a AAA baseball Doc...

  7. Yeah, but DrB is noting that JazzHands got it wrong, his BA was about .500, which is nowhere close to a hit per AB.

I think outside of Belt, there is nobody knocking the stuffing out of the ball, so right now I don't think any hitter will get promoted mid-season. Nick Liles has stats to get promoted, but his BABIP is off the charts, and likely to drop. Still, good contact rate, and he's so far not challenged so he could get the nod for promotion.

Among the pitchers, many potentials, I think. Heath Hembree is a clear one, Eric Surkamp too. High strikeout rate plus good K/BB ratio. Vogelsong would have been on the list, except already got the call. I would add Marc Kroon and Zack Wheeler to the list too, both are doing well enough to get a promotion. Dan Otero has done nicely, but harder for relievers to get promoted unless striking out a lot, and I mean a lot, like Runzler did. Plus, he's old for the league too, hard to gauge due to that. Edlefson also deserves notice, but it would be hard for him to make majors, Kroon too, would take injury in MLB bullpen. I would include Jose Valdez if he could get his walks cut down, into 4's at minimum, ideally into 3's.

  8. OGC, you don't think Brown is doing well enough to warrant a promotion to Richmond? How about Willoughby, who is already starting to push the expected age of A-? Or Fairley, who is in the Poop-Or-Get-Off list?
