Down on the Farm: 5/25/2011

AAA Oklahoma City Redhawks defeated the Fresno Grizzlies 5-1:

Thomas Neal(RF)- 1 for 3, HR(1), OF Assist(home). BA= .333
Brandon Belt(LF)- 0 for 4, 2 K's, OF Assist(home). BA= .337.
Santiago Casilla- 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 1.80.
Jordan Lyles(RHP, Redhawks)- 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. ERA= 3.20

Good to see Thomas The Tank Engine back from the DL. His shoulder was well enough to throw out a runner at home. I think it's good for Belt to go through a slump and have to fight his way out of it. The Giants apparently didn't have any RHP's available in the top of the 9'th inning tonight. Bring Casilla up! Lyles is the Astros top prospect.

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels topped the Erie Seawolves 6-3:

Charlie Culberson(2B)- 3 for 4, SB(5). BA= .301.
Juan Perez(CF)- 1 for 4, HR(1). BA= .250.
Johnny Monell(C)- 2 for 3, 2 HR(6), BB. BA= .221.
Justin Fitzgerald(RHP)- 7 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 3.14.
Jason Stoffel(RHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(8). ERA= 3.57.

Big games for Culberson and Monell. Culberson's BA gets above .300. He's hitting .333 over his last 10 games.

A+ San Jose Giants scored 5 runs in the last 3 innings to beat the Bakersfield Blaze 5-1:

Brandon Crawford(DH)- 3 for 5, 2 2B, HR(3). BA= .322.
Chris Dominguez(3B)- 3 for 4, 2B. BA= .288.
Carter Jurica(SS)- 2 for 3, BB. BA= .245.
David Mixon(RHP)- 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 2.65.
Hector Correa(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K's, Save(1). ERA= 2.14.

If Fonty has to go to the DL, I wonder if Crawford would get the call?

Low A Savannah Sand Gnats edged the Augusta Greenjackets 6-5 in 14 innings:

Drew Biery(DH)- 2 for 6, HR(4). BA= .273.
Brett Bochy(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 1.35.
Jacob Dunnington(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 3.25.

Biery was the only Greenjacket to get more than 1 hit in the game. Melonhead Jr. is pitching well so far. Still have high hopes for Dunnington who is still young.

  1. well, neal may not be spending too much time down

ford, frodo and posey look about to go on the dl

giants about to look like fresno

belt is not ready to come back

gonna have to bring casilla up

if crawford is healthy enough, there really is no reason to send him to fresno...he has gotta come up...rohlinger isnt hitting at all

  2. With Sanchez the only catcher in the org hitting at all right now, what do the Giants do? Do they call up Williams? Make a stretch with Monell? Go with Eldred?

  3. eldred can catch?

i thought stewart was next in the depth chart

in any case...someone is getting bumped from the 40 man...looks like it will have to be hinshaw

and the season was starting to look so good too

this is why it is almost impossible to repeat in the mlb

  4. Sorry, I meant Stewart...

Heck, I would not be surprised to see Mo given a tryout at this point...

I would expect DeRosa to be put on the 60-day. No need to DFA anyone, unless they need 2 spots (which is a very real possibility).

  5. kroon has been tweeting about june 1

he is finding it hard to make a decision on what to do

if i was him, and knowing that there are now a bunch of teams that are in need of a vet arm with closer experience...i would choose to move on and get that last shot

no one in the giants org would hold it against him...just hope the dodgers dont grab him

as marc is doing this for his kids...he has gotta go and sign with another org

  6. Yeah, things just got pretty grim for the Giants. The good luck with injuries last year has turned on its head. I was impressed with Stewart in spring training, but he's not Buster Posey. Monell has been scuffling in Richmond. I don't see how he gets the call. Sanchez isn't ready. Jackson Williams would seem to be next in line after Stewart, but he ain't Buster Posey either.

This is why we may never see another great offensive catcher in baseball again. The bats are too valuable to subject to the pounding.

  7. Adding Stewart is pretty obvious. They will probably do a 60 day dl of DeRosa and a 15 day dl of Posey immediately.
If they do a 60 day dl of Posey, then I would bring up Ishikawa (and 15 day dl Ford). They have no 1B backup.
If they do a 15 day dl of Fontenot, then I would bring up Gillaspie for a couple of weeks until Sandoval is ready.
Casilla is ready, so I would bring him up and send Runzler down.

  8. ok

    here were the moves

    crawford, belt and stewart

    rohlinger and sosa dfa

fresno now really thin...gotta believe that there will be moves made from richmond

look for the org to start accelerating development for certain players

man..for a long time, i was hoping to see the kids brought up...just not this way
