Down on the Farm: 5/17/2011

AAA Fresno Grizzlies topped the Memphis Redbirds 5-3:

Emmanuel Burriss(SS)- 2 for 4, BB, SB(16). BA= .361.
Brandon Belt(LF)- 1 for 2, HR(3), 2 BB, SF. BA= .387.
Andrew Kown(RHP)- 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 3.60.

Brandon Belts one.....deeeep!!! Grand Slam HR for Belt to go with is usual 2 BB's.

AA Bowie Baysox made a 2 run first inning stand up for a 2-0 shutout of the Richmond Flying Squirrels:

Charlie Culberson(2B)- 2 for 4. BA= .299.
Clayton Tanner(LHP)- 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 3.79
Alfredo Simon(RHP, Baysox)- 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 3.38.

Not a half bad line from Clayton Tanner. Simon is a former Giants farmhand. Q: How come guys like Juan Uribe and Simon get into serious trouble down in the DR, and show up in the States in a couple of months, yet Angel Villalona's situation doesn't seem to ever get resolved? Just asking.

A+ Modesto Nuts held off the San Jose Giants 3-2:

Gary Brown(CF)- 3 for 5, 2B. BA= .374.
Ryan Cavan(2B)- 3 for 5, 3B. BA= .265.
Wendell Fairley(LF)- 1 for 3, 2B, BB. BA= .291.
Zack Wheeler(RHP)- 5.2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 5 BB, 4 K's, GO/AO= 8/2. ERA= 3.82.

Wheeler's K/BB was upside down in this one. Another 3 hit game for Gary Brown......(yawn).

Low A Augusta Greenjackets trounced the Greenville Drive 8-2:

Carlos Willoughby(2B)- 1 for 4, BB, SB(14). BA= .295.
Ehire Adrianza(SS)- 1 for 4, HR(1), BB. BA= .267.
Adam Duvall(3B)- 1 for 5, HR(9). BA= .261.
Drew Biery(DH)- 3 for 4, 2B, BB. BA= .346.
Rafael Rodriguez(LF)- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .281.
Devin Harris(RF)- 4 for 5, 2B, HR(8). BA= .232.
Taylor Rogers(RHP)- 7 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 2.58.
Edward Concepcion(RHP)- 2 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 4.82.

Have to say I am really digging RafRod's performance so far this year. If he keeps this up it portends very welll for the future.

In his latest post Baggs is sensing that a shakeup is looming and a recall of Brandon Belt might be part of it.

  1. Why are Ehire Adrianza and Drew Biery in Low A this season after being in High A last season? How is this figured out?

  2. Adrianza been injured and is now blocked by Crawford/Jurica in High A (should be in AA) and Noonan in AA! Think he will work his way up once several roster moves happen in the next few weeks!

  3. Any news on how Brandon Belt has been looking out in the outfield. I have been taking a no news is good news approach. Seems like he has been adequate.

  4. Danielle,

Yeah, the Giants MO is to always start guys coming off injuries at a low level and then work them back up to their previous level or above. Sometimes the process takes a lot longer then a normal rehab stint though. Probably gets complicated finding PT for everybody, especially if the replacement player is going good.

Example: Adrianza normally would have been ticketed for AA, but Noonan seems to be doing better at SS than expected, so now where do you put him?

  5. Maybe if the SS situation in SF remains the same, Adrianza will be there shortly (he is already on the 40-man while Noonan and Crawford are not -- Although, we do have 2 dead 40-man spots available in Hinshaw and Sosa).
