Down on the Farm: 5/16/2011

AAA Memphis Redbirds edged the Fresno Grizzlies 5-4 in 14 innings:

Brandon Belt(RF-LF)- 2 for 6, 2B, BB. BA= .384.
Brett Pill(1B)- 4 for 7. BA= .321.
Conor Gillaspie(3B)- 2 for 6, 2B. BA= .288.
Doug Mathis(RHP)- 6 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 3.54.
Steve Edlefsen(RHP)- 0.1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 0 K's. ERA= 6.86.
Marc Kroon(RHP)- 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, BS(1). ERA= 3.52.

Belt has an interesting line over his last 10 games: .323/.511/.387. Is the 2B experiment over for Brett Pill? Minor league journeyman Mathis had a 6 inning no-no. He'll be lucky to ever get a cup of coffee, so why not let him try for the full monty? Second recent disastrous outing for Edlefsen.

AA No games schedule in the Eastern League.

A+ San Jose Giants won an 18 inning see-saw battle with the Stockton Ports 10-9:

Gary Brown(CF)- 3 for 8, 2B, SB(23), CS(11). BA= .367.
Ryan Cavan(2B)- 2 for 8, 2B, HR(5). BA= .254.
Chris Dominguez(3B)- 5 for 8, HR(9). BA= .292.
Jarrett Parker(RF)- 2 for 9, 2B. BA= .262.
Hector Sanchez(C)- 2 for 7, 2B, BB. BA= .282.
Santiago Casilla(RHP)- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K's. ERA= 0.00.

Think maybe there is a geographic rivalry between these two teams? Very nice game for Dominguez. Usually these marathons are killers for the ol' batting average, but Dominguez really helped his season line in this one. 9 AB's for Parker? That's crazy! He gets 2 hits with a double and his BA takes a hit. .222 for the game.

Low A Augusta Greenjackets game against the Hickory Crawdads was suspended due to rain after Augusta took a 6-5 lead in the top of the 11'th inning. The game will not be resumed. It will not count as a W or L for either team. Individual stats count:

Ehire Adrianza(SS)- 1 for 3, 2B, 3 BB. BA= .273.
Drew Biery(DH)- 1 for 5, HR(1). BA= .273.
Rafael Rodriguez(LF)- 2 for 5, HR(1). BA= .274.
Shawn Sanford(RHP)- 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 2.92.

HR by RafRod!

  1. it was Edlefsen's 3rd really poor outing out of the last 6

and kroon gave up a double right off the bat as he came in, allowing 2 inherited runners to score

and ya...kinda curious that decker lifted mathis

still unclear why the commish of the cal league allowed the sj game to go way past curfew...game ended close to 1 am

nice to see adrianza back in action

  2. Just subscribed to MiLB.tv so I've been able to catch the Grizzlies game and watch replays. Got to say, the more I watch Pill, the more I just think 2b would be to much of a challenge. Doesn't seem all that athletic to play middle infield.

As for Rafrod, good to see him hit a dinger. Wasn't all that high initially on him, but I've really come around as of late. Hope he can have a good Sally campaign this year.
