Game Wrap 4/23/2011: Braves 5 Giants 2

Well, that was a dispiriting loss, not in the way a 1-0 loss or an extra-inning loss or a Blown Save loss is dispiriting, but rather the quietness of it, the lack of spirit. The Giants were flat in every facet of the game today and the result was a very quiet 3'rd loss in a row. That bothers me and does not bode well, IMO. Key lines:

Pat Burrell- 3 for 4, 2 2B. BA= .250. Burrell now has an .881 OPS.

Cody Ross- 2 for 4. BA= .182.

Tim Lincecum- 6.1 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 6 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 2.70. Timmy didn't have his command today. He hung tough for 6 innings but if finally caught up with him in the 7'th with help from Javier Lopez. I'll chalk this one up to a bad game for Timmy. He'll be better the next time out.

Tim Hudson(Braves)- 8.2 IP, 9 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. I hate watching games that Tim Hudson pitches against the Giants. It looks like he should be hittable, but they just can't break through. Frustrating!

The loss dropped the Giants to .500 at 10-10. They also dropped 4 games behind the Rockies who topped the Florida Marlins 3-1. The Dodgers stayed tied with the Giants for second place by dropping a 10-8 decision to the Cubs.

Jonathan Sanchez will try to keep the losing streak from going to 4 tomorrow against Brandon Beachy.

  1. Henry Schluman put it best, they simply shot themselves in the foot. The Braves #8 hitter gets on base 3 times and scores 3 runs, Hudson walks trying to bunt, Timmy gives up 2 hits on 0-2 pitches, Sanchez made a bad throw to the plate in the 7th which led to big inning. Frustrating game to watch, but its only April...

  2. Couldn't agree more about Hudson. There really isn't much special about his stuff that you can see on TV, anyway. No a lot of movement, nothing electric. He also really just pitches to outside of the plate. Like 95% of the time. If "MLB The Show" has taught me anything (and I'd like to think it has) is that if I, as a batter, can concentrate on 1/2 the plate, I can hit .400. So, yeah, it's frustrating to see the Giants have trouble with this guy.
