Down on the Farm: 4/9/2011

Las Vegas 51's clubbed the Fresno Grizzlies 14-4:

Darren Ford- 2 for 4, SB, Assist. BA= .308.
Marc Kroon- 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K.

Ford is off to a good start in Fresno on offense and defense. Yeah, to say the Fresno pitching looks weak is a pretty big understatement.

Richmond Flying Squirrels beat the New Britain Rock Cats 6-2:

Charlie Culberson- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .385.
Roger Kieschnick- 1 for 2, 2 BB. BA= .300.
Johnny Monell- 1 for 3, BB. BA= .333.
Justin Fitzgerald- 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K's.
David Quinowski- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.

The SJ kids are off to a good start. Kieschnick's start looks encouraging. I missed Q on the original roster. Good to see he's still in the organization and pitching well.

San Jose Giants broke out if front of the Lake Elsinore Storm and kept going for a 10-3 win:

Gary Brown- 1 for 5, BB, 2 SB(5), Assist. BA= .333.
Chris Dominguez- 2 for 5, SB(1). BA= .308.
Tommy Joseph- 2 for 5, 3B. BA= .385.
Hector Sanchez- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .231.
Luke Anders- 3 for 5, 2B. BA= .333.
Craig Westcott- 4.2 IP, 11 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 1 K.
Chris Gloor- 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K's.
Jose Valdez- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K.

Brown's Assist was at home plate. Don't know if it was on a relay or not. Joseph was the DH with Sanchez catching. Looks like they will alternate those roles. Wescott pitched in Richmond the second half last year. Dominant numbers for Gloor in relief. Dang! I wanted to see Jose Valdez pitch today. He probably won't get in the game since he pitched last night.

Greenville Drive blanked the Augusta Greenjackets 7-0:

Ydwin Villegas- 1 for 3, 2B. BA= .286.
Austin Fleet- 4.1 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 0 BB, 4 K's.
Sanford, Bowlin, Concepcion- 1 scoreless IP each.
Anthony Ranaudo(Greenville)- 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K's.

Fleet got knocked around here. You may remember Ranaudo as a highly ranked draft prospect out of LSU whose stock dropped due to injury and signability concerns. He made his pro debut in this game.

I'm going to The Diamond in Lake Elsinore today and I'm excited! Looks like the kids are hitting well and Zack Wheeler is scheduled to be on the mound. The weather should be better in SoCal today. If anyone else is planning to go, I'll be wearing my Matt Cain #43 (rookie)shirt, although if it's cold, I'll have my Giants warmup jacket over it.

  1. Brown is doing as well as I was hoping and expecting. Looking forward to hearing your scouting report and thoughts about him.

  2. Doc, I figure if you made it to LE for the SJ Saturday, you will be needing a change of clothes. You think Wheeler, Joseph and Dominguez might be considered worth watching? Dominquez and Joseph are backing off on the K's for now...

  3. Doc, I meant Sunday... No Hit for 5 would make one wet their drawers....
