Spring Training Game Wrap: Cubbies 3 Giants 2

The pitching was a bit sharper today, but the hitters were mostly quiet in a game that resembled many games from last year. Trench warfare! Key lines:

Buster Posey- 1 for 2, BB, Pickoff(Castro, S at 1B).

Hector Sanchez- 1 for 1. Nice to see Sanchez getting a few AB's. He's 2 for 2 so far.

Thomas Neal- 1 for 1. I think that's his first hit of the spring. It drove in a run.

Pablo Sandoval- 2 for 3, 2 2B. Pablo is really stroking it so far!

Gary Brown- PR, SB(2).

Tim Lincecum- 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. Much better looking line than his first start. Baggs says he was working on both the 4 seam and 2 seam FB's on the outside corner.

Madison Bumgarner- 2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. Bum said he felt better than his first start. He gave up 2 singles that he stranded in the 4'th, then another hit in the 5'th. He came out for the 6'th inning and gave up 3 consecutive singles with a run scoring. He was relieved by Runzler who gave up a 2 run double to Aramis Ramirez who is a pretty good RH hitter. The 4 K's against 0 BB's are encouraging.

Ryan Verdugo- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K's. Pretty typical line for Verdugo. Good to see the kid get some ST action.

Jonathan Sanchez gets his second spring start against half of a split D'Back's squad tomorrow in a night game.

  1. what i like is that both timmy and madbum were pounding the zone

    timmy had 13 pitches through 3....madbum 17 through 2

do that during the regular season, and these guys can easily go 8 each time....and no august slump

hitting was bad? rowand sux....burrell is not hitting, but if derosa is healthy, he will be coming off the bench, so who cares....pat will hit eventually....rowand is done

pablo is back....im happy for him

i hope bumko 2.0 makes the cubbies....their fans will eat him raw

fresno is gonna have a very solid team to start the season....and i like that we have a much deeper pool to go to for position players this season, in case of injury

  2. Bacci-
If you're getting your pitch count from gameday on mlb.com, you should know that they are not actually counting the pitches, just recoding enough information to plug in the outcomes of each at bat.

13 through 3 is a little brief, even for timmy, no? :)
