Down on the Farm: 09-04-2010

AAA Tacoma Rainiers topped the Fresno Grizzlies 3-1:

Emmanuel Burriss- 3 for 4. BA= .284.
Brandon Belt- 1 for 4, 2B. BA= .225.
Eric Hacker- 7 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 4.51.
Dontrelle Willis- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 6.23.
Tony Pena- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 6.60.

Is this enough to get Willis a callup?

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels edged the Bowie Baysox 4-3:

Conor Gillaspie- 1 for 4, HR(8). BA= .292.
David Mixon- 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 3.50.

Do Gillaspie's 8 HR's in the EL translate to double digits next year in Fresno?

High A San Jose Giants edged the Visalia Rawhide 5-4:

Francisco Peguero- 2 for 4, SB(39), OF Assist. BA= .326.
Juan Perez- 2 for 4, HR(13). BA= .299.
Brandon Crawford- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .167.
Ehire Adrianza- 3 for 4, 2 2B. BA= .255.
Kelvin Marte- 3.2 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 5 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 14.73.
Jason Stoffel- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's, Save(25). ERA= 4.80.

I hadn't noticed that Crawford was in the lineup for the previous 2 games also. Good to see him back. He'll get in some more games since the Little Giants are in the Cal League playoffs. Peguero has been showing off his arm lately. It's going to be a tough call between him and Gary Brown on placement in the Top 50 Prospects list this year. This was Marte's first start at this level. It's been a tough year for Giants pitching prospects who got promoted. Stoffel has had a very inconsistent year. IMO, he needs to be temporarily moved to starter, or else more extended innings as a reliever, so he can learn how to pitch.

Low A Augusta Greenjackets blanked the Delmarva Shorebirds 3-0:

Nick Liles- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .318.
Ryan Cavan- 2 for 3, BB, SB(12). BA= .286.
Hector Sanchez- 1 for 4, 3B. BA= .274.
Jeremy Toole- 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 2 K's, GO/AO= 10/4.
Jose Valdez- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 3.30.
Jose Casilla- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K's, Save(14). ERA= 1.18.

Short Season Salem-Keizer Volcanoes out pitched the Eugene Emeralds 1-0 in 10 innings:

Gary Brown- 1 for 3, 2 BB. BA= .167.
Julio Izturis= 2 for 4, 2 2B. BA= .281.
Edwin Escobar- 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 4.86.
Stephen Shackleford- 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 1.23.
Stephen Harrold- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 2.78.

At least we're learning that, yes, Gary Brown can draw walks. Escobar has been a bit inconsistent, but is still only 18 yo and seems to have a ton of upside. Don't know much about Shack. He's out of a place called Savannah College of Art and Design, but he's put up great looking numbers at two stops this summer after the draft. Harrold, out of UNC Wilmington, has also put up nice numbers in two stops. I'm guessing we see both in Augusta next summer.

  1. I just realized that Michael Main has disappeared. Any clue where he is?

  2. I'm guessing Main is either hurt, or back in camp in Arizona undergoing a Dick Tidrow makeover.

  3. wonder if the org is gonna load up the sj team for the playoffs

  4. Bacci,

They usually do load up the SJ roster for the playoffs. They already have brought in Brandon Crawford. I haven't heard anything about bringing Belt back, but that would be a nice touch a la Kevin Frandsen a few years ago who requested to go back because he liked his teammates there so much.

  5. I also seem to remember they send FLew down a few years back. He was a relative regular producer in SF that year as well, IIRC.

  6. A lot of the other teams in the Cal League complained about the Giants doing this sort of thing, putting experienced upper level prospects down in Advanced A.

And they appeared to stop doing that the past couple of seasons. But sending Belt back seems appropriate given that is where he started, unless he is tired and need a rest before starting AFL.
