Game Wrap 07-29-2010: Marlins 5 Giants 0

There really isn't much to say about this game except Anibal Sanchez pitched a heckuva game. End of story. Key lines:

GIants offense- 1 for 28, BB.

Anibal Sanchez- 9 IP 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K's. Now THAT is a dominant line! No team is going to win very many games against a pitcher on that kind of level of dominance.

Madison Bumgarner- 6 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 2.70. Bum pitched a good game too. It's just that his opponent pitched a great game.

Buster Posey- 0 for 3. Buster's hitting streak stopped at 21 games, one game shy of the SF Giants rookie record held by none other then Willie McCovey, who will now hold it for awhile longer.

With the L, the Giants dropped back to a 3.5 game deficit to the San Diego Padres who edged the Dodgers 3-2. That loss dropped the Dodgers 7 games off the lead. Colorado beat the Bucs 9-3 to remain 9 games behind the leaders. Joe Saunders pitched a pretty good game in his first start for the D'Backs but it wasn't enough as they lost to the Phils 3-2 to drop 24 games off the pace. St Louis lost to the Mets 4-0 to exchange places with Cincinnati, which enabled the Giants to remain 1.5 games in front of the Wild Card race. Philadelphia moved into a tie for second place in the WC race with their win over the D'Backs.

The Hated ones come to town for the weekend with the top of the rotation slated to pitch for the Giants. The trade deadline watch will heat up as the weekend progresses too. I won't be devastated if the Giants stand pat.
