If you are looking for clues in the tea leaves about whether this just might be the Giants season, this game probably made your heart beat just a bit faster, in more ways than one! What a wild roller-coaster of a ride! The Giants and Jonathan Sanchez were cruising along with a 9-2 lead when most of that lead evaporated in the blasts of PH Donnie Murphy and the ever annoying Dan Uggla. Brian Wilson had a rare blown save in the 9'th to complete the Marlins comeback. Somehow, the Giants picked themselves off the mat one more time and eeked out a 10-9 win in a game they probably deserved to lose. Key lines:
Andres Torres- 4 for 6, HR(10). BA= .287. Yet another huge game for Torres!
Aubrey Huff- 2 for 3, BB. BA= .310. One thing I love about Huff, it's not just the HR's. This guy gets the basehits and draws the walks too.
Buster Posey- 1 for 4, BB. BA= .363. Buster extends his hitting streak to 21 games, 1 shy of Willie Mac's SF Giants rookie record.
Juan Uribe- 3 for 5, 3B. BA= .260. OOO-Ri-Bay is en fuego and that's a very good thing for the Giants!
Aaron Rowand- 2 for 5. BA= .250. 3 two-hit games in a row for Gamer.
Edgar Renteria- 2 for 5. BA= .293. Everybody in the lineup got at least 1 hit. Everybody but Fred Sanchez and Pablo got more than 1.
Jonathan Sanchez- 6 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 3.55. Sanchez was pitching one of his better games until Murphy hit his PH 3 run dinger. That's the Marlins for you. They are a team built around the HR. It's just that they don't hit enough to make up for a terrible bullpen and even worse defense.
Brian Wilson- 1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 2 K's, BS(3). ERA= 2.33. Maybe Brian was just a bit distracted by the orange shoe sideshow. We know you love being a Giant, Brian, but for God's sake, just pitch!!
Chris Ray- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 3.29. Ray got the W. He's had a shaky outing or two but overall has been a godsend.
With the win, the Giants keep pace with the first place Padres 2.5 games behind as they beat the Dodgers 6-1. In losing, the Dodgers slipped to 6 games off the pace and 3.5 behind the second place Giants. The fading Rockies dropped yet another game to the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-2 to fall 9 games behind the Pads amid rumors that they are sellers at the trade deadline. The D'Backs lost yet again to the Phillies 7-1 to fall 23 games behind in last place. Cincinnati and St. Louis both won in the NL Central so the Giant maintain their 1.5 game lead over Cincy in the Wild Card race. The Philies trail in the WC by 2.5 games.
Madison Bumgarner tries to close out the 4 game Marlins series with a W tomorrow afternoon against Anibal Sanchez who is having a decent season.
