Game Wrap 07-08-2010: Giants 9 Brewers 3

What's better than a 3 game sweep of a series? Why, a 4 game sweep, that's what! Wow! what a difference a series makes! The Giants broke out the long ball again yesterday and completed a 4 game sweep of a very defeated looking Milwaukee BrewCrew team. Key lines:

Andres Torres- 2 for 6, HR(6). BA= .280. The Giants' offense has produced when the top of the order has been productive.

Freddy Sanchez- 3 for 5, 2B, S. BA= .294. Sanchez seems to be the glue that binds the top of the order into a productive unit. When he's hitting the Giants offense clicks, when he slumps, it sputters.

Aubrey Huff- 2 for 3, HR(17), BB, SF. BA= .298. Huff has been great all season, but he's really busted out the power with 5 dingers in his last 6 games.

Buster Posey- 2 for 4, HR(6), BB. BA= .336. Talk about busting out the power....! Buster is busting out!

Pablo Sandoval- 2 for 5. BA= .270. Maybe it was just bad pitching by Milwaukee, but Panda seems to be slowly coming around? Maybe?

Edgar Renteria- 2 for 4, BB. BA= .310. Why are they still bagging on Rent is some corners? Yes, he's had two DL stints, but he's hit well when he's been in there and seems healthy now. If we traded or DFA'd him, who the heck would play the position? Who's obtainable out there who would do better?

Barry Zito- 4.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 6 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 3.76. A very strange looking line for Zeets. 13 baserunners in 4.2 IP is horrible, but it looks like the 7 K's kept it from being a shelling.

Chris Ray- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 2.92. How big was the acquisition of Ray? This guy has been nothing short of phenomenal in stabilizing the bullpen. He was a very good closer for Baltimore before TJ. It's almost like Sabean let Baltimore and Texas do the rehabbing and then grabs him just as he's back to 100%.

Every team in the NL West won yesterday so the standings remain static with the Giants record at 45-40, in 4'th place, 5 games behind division leaders San Diego Padres and two games behind the Dodgers and Rockies who are tied for 2'nd place.

The Giants close out the official first half of the season with a 3 game set in Washington with Matt Cain facing the immortal Stephen Strasburg in game 1. The Giants have done surprisingly well against other team's unbeatable looking aces. Maybe it's time for Cainer's luck to turn just a bit? The Giants need to keep this momentum into the All-Star break if they are serious about getting back in this thing.
