Down on the Farm: 07-30-2010

AAA Fresno Grizzlies defeated the Tacoma Rainiers 9-3:

Tyler Graham- 3 for 4, 2B. BA= .351.
Jesus Guzman- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .307.
John Bowker- 2 for 4, HR(14). BA= .310.
Matt Downs- 1 for 3, HR(7), BB. BA= .258.
Kevin Pucetas- 6 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 6.02.

John Bowker's final game in the Giants organization. Maybe I'll do a Prospect Retro on him. I didn't realize that Matt Downs' AAA BA was that low. He's hitting just .140 over his last 10 games.

AA RIchmond Flying Squirrels topped the Altoona Curve 8-4:

Darren Ford- 2 for 4, BB. BA= .251.
Thomas Neal- 1 for 4, 2B, BB. BA= .288.
Brandon Belt- 2 for 4. BA= .351.
Conor Gillaspie- 2 for 3, 3B(7), HR(5), BB. BA= .287.
Dan Turpen- 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 4.09.

Is Conor Gillaspie turning himself into a serious prospect? Along with Belt and Neal, that would make at least 3 serious position prospects in Richmond. I'm guessing there was a Red Sox scout in attendance who liked what he saw of Turpen's performance?

High A San Jose Giants stomped the Inland Empire 66'ers 6-1:

Juan Perez- 2 for 5, 3B(9). BA= .297.
Francisco Peguero- 2 for 5. BA= .317.
Johnny Monell- 2 for 3, HR(14), 2 BB. BA= .263.
Wendell Fairley- 2 for 4. BA= .299.
Jorge Bucardo- 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 1.50.

Monell is red hot! .417/.488/1.000 over his last 10 games. No adjustment period for Bucardo! He keeps pitching like this in the Cal League and he moves WAY up the Giants prospect rankings.

Low A Augusts Greenjackets smothered the Savannah Sand Gnats 15-2:

Tommy Joseph- 2 for 2, HR(13). BA= .228.
Dan Cook- 4 for 4, 2B, 2 BB, SB(7). BA= .291.
Ryan Lollis- 3 for 6, SB(7). BA= .291.
Ydwin Villegas- 2 for 4, 2B, SF. BA= .211.
Jeremy Toole- 6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 4.14.
Zack Wheeler- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 4.59.
Jose Valdez- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 4.04.

Short Season Yakima Bears topped the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 7-4:

Carter Jurica- 1 for 4, HR(3). BA= .197.
Brennan Flick- 2.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 4.24.

Is Jurica showing some signs of life? HR's in consecutive games? .250/.325/.583 over his last 10 games.

Rookie AZL Giants blank the Mariners 2-0:

Carlos WIlloughby- 1 for 3, BB, SB(16). BA= .280.
Armando Paniagua- 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 3.55.

DSL Yankees edged the Giants 3-2(Game 1):

Christian Paulino- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(3), SB(16). BA= .251.
Yeini Martinez- 5 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 1.91.

Paulino is 18 yo and seems to be a dynamic player with some potential for bigger things in the future.

DSL Giants edged the Yankees(Game 2):

Fernando Pujadas- 2 for 3, HR(2). BA= .316.

Pujadas is another 18 yo with promising numbers.
