Down on the Farm: 07-16-2010

AAA Fresno Grizzlies defeated the Las Vegas 51's 5-2:

Eugenio Velez- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .319.
Ryan Rohlinger- 2 for 4. BA= .321.
Emmanuel Burriss- 0 for 2, 2 BB, SB(4). BA= .269
Joe Borchard- 2 for 4, 3B. BA= .290.
Henry Sosa- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K's. ERA= 2.97.

Any of these names look like trade bait?

AA Bowie Baysox slipped past the Richmond Flying Squirrels 5-4 in 10 innings:

Darren Ford- 2 for 5. BA- .233.
Thomas Neal- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .287.
Brandon Belt- 2 for 5. BA= .409.
David Mixon- 7 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 10 K's. ERA= 3.33.
Dan Turpen- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 4.46.

Belt is so hot, he gets 2 hits and his BA goes down!

High A High Desert Mavericks trampled the San Jose Giants 8-1:

Juan Perez- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .295.
Francisco Peguero- 2 for 5. BA= .299.
Drew Biery- 2 for 4. BA= .282.

Peguero has heated up of late.

Low A Augusta Greenjackets clobbered the Charleston River Dogs 9-1:

Evan Crawford- 1 for 4, 2B, 2 BB. BA= .255.
Ryan Cavan- 2 for 5. BA= .282.
Luke Anders- 4 for 5, 2B. BA= .299.
Ydwin Villegas- 2 for 3. BA= .198.
Jeremy Toole- 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 3.86.
Chris Gloor- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 2.86.
Jose Valdez- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 4.46.

Short Season Salem-Keizer Volcanoes edged the Boise Hawks 3-2 in 11 innings:

Chris Lofton- 1 for 5, 3B, SB(6). BA= .254.
Dan Brock- 1 for 2, HR(2), 2 BB. BA= .300.
Ryan Scoma- 2 for 4, HR(1). BA= .330.
Edwin Escobar- 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 3.94.
Kaohi Downing- 2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 1.04.

Escobar has 32 K's in 29.3 IP. Looks like we got a good one in the swap for Ben Snyder. Downing is a sleeper who throws in the low-mid 90's.

Rookie AZL- Giants were idle.

DSL Giants defeated the Orioles 10-2:

Leonardo Fuentes- 1 for 4, HR(3), BB. BA= .227.
Jesus Galindo- 1 for 2, 3 BB, SB(27). BA= .207.
Ariel Hernandez- 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 1.37.

Fuentes had been in a bit of a slump. Despite his pathetic looking BA, Galindo has an OBP of .390. Apparently he is trying to walk, and run off the island. This seems to be a different Ariel Hernandez than the one who played in the States the last 2 years and was released. This one is 18 years old.

  1. DrB...Like you I am a die hard prospect hound I totally eat this up. Thanks again for having your blog.
Have you had a chance to follow some of the international signings? Where do you get your info. I've been looking all over the place for some info on potential dominican players.
It seems that this last wave (except for RafRod) is a lot better than the last..really good mix of pitching and hitting prospects. Although Bobby Evans might not have been involved in this batch I hope that they continue to be aggressive.

    Keep up the good work!

  2. This year's international signing period, which started July 2, got off to a slow start, in part because MLB required the top 40 rated potential signees to undergo a rigorous pre-period including submitting ID paperwork and a drug test. Reportedly around 20 or about half of the FLUNKED THE DRUG TEST! How do you like that? I guess i'm not too surprised after the Duanel Jones fiasco. The Giants had reportedly been in on a couple of hitters, an OF and 3B, but then I read a subsequent report that the someone in the Giants organization said not to expect any high profile signings this year. I have not seen any reports of the two players the Giants were reportedly in on signing with anyone. I guess you can read anything you want into that.

As for where I get my information, I have my little internet path I take a daily walk around. Just look over on the left hand side of this blog for the links to my favorite sites. Baseball America is probably the top source of information about international players right now.
