Down on the Farm: 07-10-2010

AAA Tacoma Rainiers dropped the Fresno Grizzlies 8-2:

Eugenio Velez- 2 for 3, 3B, BB. BA= .312.
Jackson Williams- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .174.
Daryl Maday- 5 IP, 9 H, 8 R, 3 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 10.64.

This game was played in Tacoma, so climate should not be a factor in Maday's shelling. The PCL is just a whole different ballgame from the EL for pitchers just like the EL is a whole different game than the Cal League for hitters. It's just a big, big adjustment.

AA Altoona Curve edged the Richmond Flying Squirrels 2-1:

Brandon Belt- 1 for 4, HR(3). BA= .387.
David Mixon- 7 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 3.21.

The EL has not been much of an adjustment for Brandon Belt, huh?

High A Lake Elsinore Storm clubbed the San Jose Giants 8-2:

Jose Flores- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .340.

Flores is one of several Giants prospects who are having surprise seasons.

Low A Augusta Greenjackets edged the Kannapolis Intimidators 3-2:

Evan Crawford- 2 for 4, 2B, SB(17). BA= .258.
Luke Anders- 2 for 3, 2B, BB. BA= .293.
Brian Irving- 7.1 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 4.07.

Short Season Tri-City Dust Devils out pitched the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 1-0:

Edward Concepcion- 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K. ERA= 5.40.
Matt Graham- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K's. GO/AO= 6/0. ERA= 8.76.

Good to see both these pitchers have good games even if they weren't getting the K's. It's at least a place to start. Graham looks like he must have been pounding the zone with a two-seamer.

Rookie AZL Giants crushed the Cubs 9-0:

Jose Cuevas- 2 for 5, BA- .240.
Charlie Jones- 1 for 5, HR(3). BA= .282.
Brice Cutspec- 3 for 5. BA= .278.
Mike Murray- 3 for 4, 2B. BA= .462.
Austin Fleet- 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 0.96.

Now that they have him stretched out, what are they going to do with Fleet? He's clearly too good for this level!

DSL Nationals defeated the Giants 3-1:

Gabriel Cornier- 2 for 3, BB. BA= .343.

Cornier had 2 of the team's 4 hits.
