Down on the Farm: 07-04-2010

AAA Fresno Grizzlies got by the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 5-4:

Brett Pill- 2 for 4. BA= .300.
Ryan Rohlinger- 3 for 4, 2B. BA= .342.
Eric Hacker- 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 4.69.

Add Rohlinger to the list of players who seem to be able to rake in Fresno but look completely overmatched at the MLB level.

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels squeaked by the Erie Sea Wolves 4-3 in 10 innings:

Thomas Neal 1 for 4, 2B, BB. BA= .283.
Brandon Belt- 4 for 5, HR(1). BA= .500.
Conor Gillaspie- 2 for 4. BA= .256.
Nick Noonan- 1 for 4, 2B, BB. BA= .256.
Felix Romero- 6.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 3.96.
Andy Sisco- 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, O BB, 1 K. ERA= 5.14.

Brandon Belt! It took him a game to get going, but what a start to AA! Man, if he keeps it going in Richmond, he will be moving way up the prospect rankings! Noonan makes his first appearance since June 18. He's had two stints on the DL this year. Stay healthy, Nick! Gillaspie is hitting .361 over his last 10 games, but with only one XBH in 13 hits. Still, it's a start. Sisco is unscored upon in his last 4 outings....baby steps!

High A San Jose Giants crushed the Bakersfield Blaze 13-1:

Wendell Fairley- 4 for 6, 2 2B. BA= .286.
Francisco Peguero- 2 for 5, 2 2B. BA= .288.
Michael Ambort- 3 for 4, SF. BA= .429.
Charlie Culberson- 2 for 4, 2B, BB. BA= .325.
Jose Flores- 3 for 5, HR(3). BA= .343.
Johnny Monell- 2 for 4, HR(6), BB. BA= .219.
Joel Weeks- 1 for 4, HR(2), BB. BA= .216.
Oliver Odle- 7 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 3.90.
Jason Stoffel- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 5.83.

This comes a day after I said the SJ offense might struggle without Belt. We'll say they read it and took offense!

Low A Lexington Legends edged the Augusta Greenjackets 6-5:

Evan Crawford- 3 for 5. BA= .262.
Tommy Joseph- 3 for 4, HR(8). BA= .226.

Tommy is hitting .325/.372/.525 over his last 10 games. There was an article on Fangraphs or Hardball Times, not sure which, that listed Tommy Joseph as a dissappointment. I disagree. Considering this is his first professional experience, I think he's done well. The SAL is a tough league, especially for hitters.

Short Season Salem-Keizer Volcanoes erupted for a 14-3 win over the Vancouver Canadians:

Carter Jurica- 1 for 4, 3B, BB. BA= .192.
Jose Medina- 2 for 2, BB. BA= .303.
Carlos Quintana- 2 for 5, HR(2). BA= .302.
Edward Concepcion- 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K's, GO/AO= 12/3. ERA= 6.89.

Concepcion had terrible results before tonight. Perseverance and patience pay off. RafRod has been missing from the lineup for several games.

AZL Rookie Giants topped the Mariners 4-2:

Wes Hobson- 2 for 4. BA= .368.
Joe Staley- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(2). BA= .258.
Jose De La Cruz- 2 for 4, 3B. BA= .250.
Jonathan DeBerry- 3 for 4. BA= .176.
Armando Paniagua- 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K's, GO/AO= 10/2. ERA= 1.29.
Danny Otero- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 0.00.

I thing De La Cruz might be a player to keep an eye on. He's just 19 yo with nice size, 6'3", 190 lbs. He hit .301 for the DSL Giants last year. Otero makes his comeback from TJ.

DSL Giants were idle.

  1. Whats up with Perez? I have not seen his name in the write-ups in quite a while. Is he hurt or just slumping?

  2. Juan is hitting just .143 over his last 10 games. His overall BA is still at .302. Hopefully it's just a temporary mini-slump.
