Down on the Farm: 07-02-2010

AAA Sacramento River Cats edged the Fresno Grizzlies 4-3 in 11 innings:

Matt Downs- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(6), BB. BA= .306.
Jesus Guzman- 2 for 4, HR(10), BB, SB(6). BA= .300.
Tyler Graham- 2 for 5, 2B, SB(2). BA= .361
Joe Martinez- 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 3.39.
Eugene Espinelli- 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 2.91.

Guzman has 4 HR's in 4 games. I wonder if Geno will ever get another chance at the Show?

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels edged the Erie Sea Wolves 3-2:

Thomas Neal- 1 for 3, 2B, BB. BA= .284.
Craig Westcott- 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 3 K's, GO/AO= 9/5.
Rafael Cova- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 1.19.

Westcott makes his AA debut a success with a QS.

High A San Jose Giants scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 9'th inning to squeak by the Lancaster Jethawks 4-3:

James Simmons- 1 for 3, HR(5), BB. BA= .233.
Peguero, Culberson, Flores, Fairley- 2 hits each.
Eric Surkamp- 7 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 3.49.

The Giants lineup offense will undoubtedly suffer from the absence of Brandon Belt, but it's good to see him get a chance to prove himself at a higher level. He had long since done it at this level.

Charleston River Dogs topped the Augusta Greenjackets 5-3:

Ryan Cavan- 2 for 4, BB. BA= .279.
Chris Dominguez- 2 for 5, 2 2B. BA= .273.
Andy Reichard- 6 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 10 K's. ERA= 3.52.

Short Season Everett Aquasox defeated the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 8-6:

Ryan Scoma- 2 for 3, 2B. BA= .468.
Jose Medina- 0 for 1, 4 BB. BA= .305.
Matt Graham- 2.2 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 4 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 10.45.

Graham did not play in any pro games last season. Maybe should have started off in the AZL?

Rookie AZL Giants defeated the AZL Dodgers 7-4:

Carlos Willougby- 2 for 5, 3B. BA= .314.
Brice Cutspec- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .167.
Jose Cuevas- 1 for 3, HR(2), BB. BA= .273.
Charles Jones- 2 for 4, 3B. BA= .333.
Lorenzo Mendoza- 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 3.00.

Go Jonesy! Mendoza is still just 18 y.o. until 8/6.

DSL Giants crushed the Nationals 16-2:

Christian Paulino- 4 for 5, 2B, SB(13). BA= .269.
Fernando Pujadas- 2 for 3, 2B, BB. BA= .290.

Paulino seems to be a dynamic player, if somewhat inconsistent. Pujadas is an 18 yo listed as a catcher. He was the DH in this lineup.
