Down on the Farm: 06-29-2010

AAA Las Vegas 51's crushed the Fresno Grizzlies 14-3:

Matt Downs- 2 for 4, HR(5). BA= .300.

The carnage in the pitching staff was so bad, Jesus Guzman pitched the last inning. He only walked two batters in a scoreless IP!

AA Akron Aeros squeezed past the Richmond Flying Squirrels 4-3:

Roger Kieschnick- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .252.
Conor Gillaspie- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .255.
Daryl Maday- 7 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, GO/AO= 12/7.

Gillaspie is hitting .359 over his last 10 games.

High A Visalia Rawhide downed the San Jose Giants 5-3:

Drew Biery- 1 for 4, HR8). BA= ..279.
James Simmons- 1 for 3, HR(4). BA= .233.
Matt Klimas- 3 for 3, 2B. BA= 1.000.
Oliver Odle- 7 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 5 K, GO/AO= 13/3. ERA= 4.20.

Second HR in 2 days for Simmons. Klimas makes his High A debut in a career that has been plagued by injuries. Odle seems like the guy who plugs holes for the organization. He's pitching pretty well right now, though.

Low A Charleston River Dogs topped the Augusta Greenjackets 4-2:

Tommy Joseph- 1 for 3, 2B. BA= .224.
Hector Sanchez- 2 for 3, 2B. BA= .255.
Chris Heston- 8 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 8 K's. ERA= 5.21.

Tommy Joseph has been doing a little hitting of late, .370 over his last 5 games. Hey, it's a start!

Short Season Salem-Keizer Volcanoes erupted for 8 runs in the 2'nd inning on their way to an 11-4 win over the Tri-City Dust Devils:

Julio Izturis- 2 for 5. BA= .400.
Ryan Scoma- 3 for 5. BA= .417.
Jesse Shriner- 2 for 3, 2B, HR(3), BB. BA= .276.
Carlos Quintana- 2 for 4. BA= .343.
Edward Concepcion- 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 9 K's. ERA= 11.17.

Like the K's for Concepcion!

Rookie AZL Giants defeated the AZL Angels 6-1:

Carlos Willoughby- 2 for 3, BB, 2 SB(9). BA= .280.
Wes Hobson- 2 for 4. BA= .440.
Jose Cuevas- 3 for 4, HR(1). BA= .267.
Jon Eshleman- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .176.
Armando Paniagua- 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 2.00.
Steven Shackleford- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 5.40.

Cuevas is from the Bronx. If he turns out to be a hitter, we can nickname him the Bronx Bomber! Love what Wiloughby is doing. Could he do it at a higher level? Paniagua now has 15 K's in 9 IP against just 2 BB's. He seems kind of small at 5'11", 155 lbs, but I guess us Giants fans should know not to hold that against him.

DSL Giants beat the Phillies 6-3:

Leonardo Fuentes- 1 for 4, HR(2). BA= .275.
Marvin Barrios- 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 0.75.

Both Fuentes and Barrios off to good starts to their pro careers.
