Down on the Farm: 06-27-2010

AAA Las Vegas 51's outhit the Fresno Grizzlies 17-11:

Brock Bond- 3 for 6, 2B. BA= .299.
John Bowker- 3 for 4, 2 HR(9), HBP. BA= .344.
Joe Borchard- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(9). BA= .290.
Matt Downs- 3 for 5, 2B, HR(4). BA= .281.
Tyler Graham- 0 for 4, 2 BB, 2 SB(18). BA= .368.

Nice day to pad the offensive stat lines here.

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels shaded the Erie Seawolves 5-4:

Darren Ford- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .246.
Roger Kieschnick- 2 for 5. BA= .248.
Michael Ambort- 2 for 5, HR(3). BA= .238.
Skyler Stromsmoe- 2 for 3. BA= .299.
Andy Sisco- 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 5.51.
Tony Pena- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K's, Save(6). ERA= 2.53.

Not much to comment on here. The whole Richmond team seems to be hitting a bit better of late.

High A San Jose Giants defeated the Modesto Nuts 9-5:

Juan Perez- 2 for 4, 2B, BB, SB(12). BA= .325.
Ehire Adrianza- 2 for 5, 2B, SB(19). BA= .266.
Charlie Culberson- 2 for 5, HR(10). BA= .326.
Drew Biery- 2 for 4. BA= .284.
Wendell Fairley- 2 for 4, SB(6). BA= .273.
Craig Westcott- 5 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 1.83.
Kyle Woodruff- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 2.08.

Culberson is appearing on the highlights as often or more than Brandon Belt these days. Juan Perez continues to have a very impressive season. Adrianza has 3 consecutive 2-hit games and is hitting .340 over his last 10. Adrianza is a very impressive physical specimen out at SS. As long as he can hit, I think he's going to be a big leaguer. Drew Biery is swinging a hot bat, .382 over his last 10 games.

Low A Augusta Greenjackets outslugged the Kannapolis Intimidators 17-14:

Evan Crawford- 2 for 5, BB. BA= .256.
Ryan Cavan- 4 for 6, 2B, HR(5). BA= .270.
Nick Liles- 3 for 6. BA= .324.
Chris Dominguez- 3 for 6, 3B, HR(11). BA= .272.
Luke Anders- 2 for 6, HR(9). BA= .285.
Tommy Joseph- 3 for 6, HR(7). BA= .224.
Ryan Lollis- 3 for 4, BB. BA= .291.

As you might imagine, no real pitching highlights in this one. Great opportunity for the lads to pad their offensive stat lines. Cavan is hitting .325 with 3 HR's in his last 10 games with HR's in consecutive games yesterday and today. Remember how he caught fire at the end of last season with Salem-Keizer? This was Tommy Joseph's 3'rd consecutive multi-hit game.

Short Season Salem-Keizer Volcanoes edged the Tri-City Dust Devils 6-5:

Raynor Campbell- 1 for 4, HR(1), S. BA= .280.
Daniel Brock- 3 for 3, HR(1), HBP. BA= .375.
Carter Jurica- 2 for 4, SB(2). BA= .241.
Matt Graham- 4 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 8.22.
Shane Kaufman- 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 2.25.
Kevin Couture- 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 0.00.

Still very small sample sizes in this league, so BA's and ERA's are volatile. Graham has 8 K's in 7.2 IP. Baby steps. Couture is a polished college pitcher, but USC pitchers have tended to perform better in the pros than their college record would suggest they might lately.

Rookie AZL Angels downed the AZL Giants 5-2:

Sundrendy Windster- 1 for 4, 2B. BA= .500.
Michael Murray- 3 for 4, 2B. BA= .500.
Lorenzo Mendoza- 4 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K's. ERA- 3.38.
Jacob Shadle- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Jason Walls- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 0.00.

Still trying to sort out who's who in the AZL here. Mendoza is a 18 yo RHP. Shadle is a 20 yo drafted in round 44 out of JC ball. Walls was a 19'th round draft pick out of Troy U in 2009. I think this is his first pro experience. Walls is big- 6'5", 225.

  1. That's why I picked Adrianza as my adopted player on MCC, his strikeout rate and walk to strikeout ratio are excellent, even more so considering his age against the competition. Very similar to Pablo's rise through the system. I am hoping for big things from him as he fields great and looks like he can at least hit for average and get on base via walks. Hopefully he can make it up in 2-3 seasons.

Didn't know that he's a physical specimen, though, that could translate into power down the line, wouldn't it, if he has a good batting approach?

Also, he hasn't stolen much in his career previously, but he's suppose to have good speed. Did you get a chance to see him steal at some point?

About Graham, he just had bad luck with the hits, his peripherals were pretty good other than that he didn't last at least 5 IP, that was a good start other than the R/ER results.

  2. Adrianza is listed at 6'1". While there are taller shortstops, that's a generous height for that position. He's thin, but not skinny. It looks like he has a sturdy frame, but with room to fill out. I do expect him to increase his power numbers as he matures and fills out that frame. I don't recall if he stole a base in the games I saw, but he appeared to have plenty of speed on the basepaths. Peguero is fast too, but I would estimate that James Simmons is the fastest man on the team.
