Down on the Farm: 06-16-2010

AAA Portland Beavers defeated the Fresno Grizzlies 9-6:

Matt Downs- 2 for 5, HR(2). BA= .288.
Brett Pill- 2 for 5. BA= .307.
John Bowker- 2 for 5, 2B, HR(5). BA= .391.
Steve Holm- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .269.
Andrew Romo- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 0.00.

Bacci, looks like you were right about Downs getting sent down. Steve Holm is swinging a hot bat hitting .400 over his last 10 games. Will Andrew Romo join his bro in the SF pen soon? Will Sergio's bro replace him?

AA Binghampton Mets clobbered the Richmond Flying Squirrels 11-2:

Darren Ford- 2 for 3, S, SB(19). BA= .242.
Roger Kieschnick- 3 for 4, 2B. BA= .250.

Not too much to comment on here.

High A San Jose Giants edged the High Desert Mavericks 4-3 to sweep the series:

Charlie Culberson- 2 for 4, 2 3B. BA= .309.
Eric Surkamp- 6 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 3.50.
David Quinowski- 2.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 2.70.

I wasn't able to get up to High Desert this week. Will try for either Friday or Saturday nights in Lake Elsinore.

Low A Charleston River Dogs blasted the Augusta Greenjackets 15-6:

Luke Anders- 2 for 3, 2B, BB. BA= .290.
Evan Crawford- 2 for 3 2B, BB. BA= .261.

Not much here either.

DSL Giants trounced the Nationals 11-0 in a game completed after 8 innings:

Christian Paulino- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .250.
Leonardo Fuentes- 2 for 4, BB. BA= .313.
Gabriel Cornier- 2 for 3, BB. BA= .414.
Keurin Feliz- 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K. ERA= 1.59.

Paulino, Fuentes and Cornier seem to be the main position players to watch in the DSL. Feliz will turn 20 yo in August making it unlikely that he is a serious prospect.

  2. I don't see either ever doing much in the bigs, maybe off the bench for Downs, Pill don't have enough power for 1B, much less than Ishikawa had, but has the bat control that Ishi never had. However, ironically, Pill needs to get the walks that Ishi gets, he is missing that.

At 26 YO, both needs to bring things up a big notch in AAA if they ever hope to get a shot at starting in the majors. Though Pill could lead to Ishi getting traded if Huff ever is signed to additional years.
