Game Wrap 05-120-2010: D'Backs 8 Giants 7

The Giants had to feel pretty good about this one coming in. They had their ace, THE ace on the mound against somebody named Rodrigo Lopez. Timmy made it look good through 4 innings. He was a bit wild, but was throwing hard blowing 94 MPH past several hitters. Then, it all came apart in the 5'th as Arizona scored 5 to take a 5-2 lead. What with the Giants offensive struggles, things had to be looking bleak here, but the Giants roared back to take a 7-5 lead. Alas, the suddenly porous bullpen couldn't hold the lead over the next two innings and the Giants lost one they should have won.....twice! Key lines:

Freddy Sanchez- 2 for 3, S, SF. Freddy did everything a #2 hitter is supposed to do and made a couple of nifty plays at 2B to boot.

Aubrey Huff- 2 for 4, 2 2B, BB. Huff was probably PO'd at having to sit out yesterday's game. He came back with a vengeance.

Juan Uribe- 2 for 5, HR(5). It looked like Uribe may have tweaked a hammy after his HR. The Giants can ill-afford to lose his bat and don't really have anyone else to play SS until Rent gets back.

John Bowker- 2 for 3, SF. Johnny B was seeing the ball and making contact tonight. He should get a chance to keep it going if Nate is on the shelf for awhile.

Tim Lincecum- 5 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 BB, 6 K's. Disappointing line for Timmy. All the damage was done in 1 inning.

Romo- 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K.
Dan Runzler- 0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 1 K.
Guillermo Mota- 0.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K.
Jeremy Affeldt- 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.

Suddenly the Giants don't have 1 pitcher they can count on in the bullpen!

Around the League: Dodgers beat the Pads 4-1 behind Clayton Kershaw. Colorado blanked Houston behind Ubaldo. Current Standings: 1. Padres(24-17) 2. Dodgers(23-18) 3. Giants(22-18) 4. Rockies(20-21) D'Backs(18-24).

The Giants now come back to the Bay Area, but play the A's in Oakland which is never a gimme series. They will be going with Zito, Cain and Sanchez as the starters.
