Game Wrap 05-09-2010: Giants 6 Mets 5

Aaron Rowand hit a clutch 8'th inning 2 run HR to save what looked like an unfolding disaster on a lousy day in Citi Field, NYC. Key lines:

Aaron Rowand- 1 for 4, BB. BA= .321. Rowand has had some big AB's this season. Add his 8'th inning two run blast to the list. It was the game winner!

Pablo Sandoval- 0 for 5. BA= .282. Hey Boch! Please give this man a day off!

Juan Uribe- 0 for 1, 4 BB. BA= .263. Uribe batting cleanup with Whiteside hitting 5'th has to be one of the odder lineups I've seen. Wouldn't you pitch around Uribe if Whiteside was hitting behind him too? On the other hand, Eli has had some big hits this season too.

Matt Downs- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .359. Downs hit another ball hard with the bases loaded early in the game but it was caught near the left-centerfield warning track to end the threat.

Tim Lincecum- 6 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 8 K's. ERA= 1.86. Timmy has another lead blown by the bullpen. Is it costing him in the Cy Young race?

Dan Runzler- 0.1 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 1 K. ERA= 4.26. Runzler loaded the bases with 1 out, Romo let them in. Runzler has electric stuff but his problem has always been control/command. He wasn't missing by that much on some of those pitches. It was hard to tell if Bochy was upset with Runzler or the ump. Maybe both?

Brian Wilson- 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 2.19. Tremendous effort by Wilson. I love that he is willing/able to go longer than 1 inning at a time. What a horse!

Going back to the beginning of the St Louis series in SF, if someone had told me the Giants would go 10-6 against the Cards, Phils, Rockies plus the eastern swing through Florida and NY, I would have jumped at it. Now they have to not let down coming home against a couple of teams they should beat, SD and Houston. I have to say though, that SD is for real. I guess we can't feel quite so bad about the sweep in Petco when the Pads have been taking to everybody.

The win today puts the Giants record at 18-12, 0.5 games behind San Diego at 19-12 as the Pads finally lost a game to the "Stros 4-3. Clayton Kershaw was on today as the Dodger blanked the Rockies 2-0. The Rocks drop to 15-16 4 games behind the Pads. The Dodgers improve to 14-17 5 games behind. The D'Backs dropped into last place at 14-18 with a 6-1 loss to the Brewers.

Around the League: Congrats to Dallas Braden on the perfecto. He had been taking some heat for calling ARod out for trying to mark his territory by stepping on the pitching rubber. The rap on Braden was that he didn't have the credentials to call out ARod. Well, we'll just see about that......!!!

  1. very confused why bochy chose not to sit pablo

    the kid is pressing...

not sure what to make of the pen...they were basically rock solid till this road trip

maybe not enough work? maybe the conditions in ny effected them?

    citi plays like the stick

next year, they should send the team to the stick to shag flies before heading out to nyc

  2. There was a pretty fierce wind blowing out to right-center field this whole series. Of course, the Giants just don't have enough power in their lineup to take advantage of that, but it probably had something to do with all the dingers the Mets hit.

I guess it's hard to sit Pablo against lefties because the Giants are already shorthanded against them. Still, it would have been nice for Panda to get two days off in a row. It looks like he's trying to kill every pitch again like he was at the beginning of the year. Maybe he needs to go back to just trying to poke the ball for a base hit?

  3. thing about braden's perfect game, is that it came against a very good hitting team...and a team in first place...

usually no hitters happen against teams that are struggling

no cheapie either...the kid was on

too bad it had to happen at the house that davis destroyed...that place is soooo ugly now
